SaharaReporters Exclusive: ‘Live Chat’ With Jonathan Was Carefully Scripted And Pre-recorded!

Nigerians hoping to hear a “live chat” today with President Goodluck Jonathan were instead treated to a warmed-over taped interview with the national leader who reportedly has a phobia about speaking spontaneously to the public, officials in the know have leaked to SaharaReporters.

The media chat was recorded, edited on Saturday and aired today on several television networks with most Nigerian watching and tweeting as though it was relayed live.




SaharaReporters gathered from state house correspondents that the interview was conducted by carefully selected reporters who threw softball questions at the president. Historically, media chats in Nigeria are done live on television, but Mr. Jonathan abhors speaking live on television because of disastrous gaffes that have dogged his presidency.

Last April, he refused to participate in a public debate with other presidential candidates preparatory to the general elections instead opting for a carefully choreographed debate  where he engaged in a monologue , debating himself and state officials behind the scene relaying the debating live but delayed television timing.
