The success story of Chinua Achebe’s classical novel, Things Fall Apart, has assumed another dimension as the celebrated author has turned down a $1m bid by hip hop star, 50 Cent, to use the title of the book for a new film he is producing.

Online sources indicated on Monday that 50 Cent had initially titled the movie, Things Fall Apart, a move that Achebe swiftly kicked against.

According to a source, the producers of the film offered the revered writer $1 million but he declined the offer.

As a result, he has changed the title to All Things Fall Apart.

“The novel with the said title was first produced in 1958 (17 years before 50cent was born), listed as the most widely read book in modern African literature, and will not be sold for One Billion Dollars,” the source quotes a statement attributed to Achebe’s legal counsel.

According to PopEater the movie was “written by 50 Cent – whose real name is Curtis Jackson - is loosely based on the life of his childhood best friend. In the movie, the rapper-turned-actor goes from a dread-locked NFL hopeful to an emaciated cancer victim,

It stars Ray Liotta alongside 50 Cent, and is directed by Mario Van Peebles, who also appears in the movie.

There are only few men of integrity left and Achebe is one of them.

How much did PA Chinua Achebe pay William Butler Yeats for using the title of the novel taken from his popular poem The Second Coming?

There are many films with the same titles with books and other works.

This ignorant nonsense is just publicity stunt or 50 Cent is daft and cannot tell the famous author of Things Fall Apart that he does not have any copyright over the title.

Another NIGERIAN NONSENSE!

Achebe shld be very happy that 50cent is even ready to pay b4 using the title. How many Nigeria artist received a dime for pirating their musics, has he not made enough money 4rm the book title i think its time to sell off d topic. If he wants to fight for d title, how does he intend to do that in Nigeria, does he know how many people pirate d book evryday, am sure he must be a very old man by now so i think 'oldage is worrying him'. Using the title is not going to wipe out the book 4rm d faces of the earth, am sure one day he's going to sue Nigerian actors for acting a movie titled after his name titled ''achebe's love apart''

Now i can totally conclude that chinua achebe is just full-of-himself. What else does he wants from the rapper before he can use the title?! He was even lucky they offered to pay him $1m. How many nollywood movie producers offered to pay hollywood for using a copyright of their title or our musician using same beat of american music. Now when they add a little word to the title he's got no more case. Definately he's going to lose everything. I remember quite well that he rejected a notable national award that was going to be bestowed on him. Also, he lost that honour. Sometimes one just need to embrace humility and desist proudness. Being 'too-proud' is one of the beginings of failure.
