Hello fellow Nairaland users, the programming gurus in the house.
Please i will need your help. I'm a fresh graduate of Project management technology from the Federal Univesity of Tech Owerri. I really want to go in information technology. Intend dealing on IT projects.

Please where should i start. Someone advised starting with oracle since it has to do with database. Which and which certification should i go for? Sorry, i didnt tell u. i already knew Qbasic and VB 6.0, MS word and excel. I will not lie. Dats all i knew about computer and IT.

Please i will need your candid advice. I'm really determined to get a career in this field. I'm very good with mathematics too. Thanks! Hoping to enjoy your contribution. You can still reach me through this email iyke199@yahoo.com or 08035835190.

Thanks!

Iyke.

You did project management in school and you have no idea as to what part you want to follow. So pretty much your project management days in college was wasted I guess if you cannot find something decent in pm while looking at other options.

IT is a very wide field as somebody suggested. I don't know much about DBA. I saw some interesting threads: Database Administrator on Nairaland. Read that. It will give you great insight on that. From what I read and what I know, it seems u are better off being a programmer. At least, there will be more demand for a programmer than a DBA.
Now, here is what u said

U know next to nothing. Don't ever tell anybody that u know Qbasic. They will laugh at you. No employer will ask u for your knowledge of Word or Excel. That is assumed unless you are saying u know how to program MS-Word and MS-Excel. If u know VB6, continue on to VB.net and C#.net. Also try and learn how to develop website. Sites are becoming very popular. Even on your own, you can earn decent living developing websites. Read some threads in Webdeveloper to have a feel of what I am talking about. Cheer and best of luck
