ABIA GANG RAPE: ABSU DEAN THREATENS COURT ACTION
Nigerians woke up to the shocking news of a young lady alleged to be a student of Abia State University [ABSU] who was ganged raped by five young men believed to be students of the same institution.

Channels Television investigations reveals that the alleged rape never took place in the Abia State University, Uturu, and some of the students said that they are not aware of the heinous act.

In a telephone interview with Channels Television, the Police Public Relations officer of Abia State, Mr Jeffrey Ogbonna debunked the story, saying that he called the divisional police officer of the university who equally refuted reports of such an act taking place within the four walls of the university.

The dean of student affairs, Abia State University, Dr Ude Nkwokeocha also speaking to Channels Television said that the institution is ready to take legal action on any news agency that does not withdraw the story, wondering why a rumour which has been making the rounds for the past two months would now be linked to ABSU, saying that some mischief makers are out to tarnish the good image of the institution.

The alleged video of five boys believed to be students of the Abia State University gang raping a helpless girl has been an internet and news sensation for almost two weeks.

The assailants took turns to sexually abuse her in a university dormitory after promising to take her home. Each time she tries to stand up, they push her back down.

Local authorities have dismissed the 10-minute video, which first surfaced on the internet and has been distributed among different individuals and news agencies.

The Abia State governor, Theodore Orji refuted the rape reports, describing them as “satanic falsehood” and “tissue of lies”.

The governor, who made his feelings known when receiving in audience the officials of Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI), described the media reports of the purported rape as the handiwork of mischievous elements bent on discrediting both the university, and the state at large.

‘’This nonsense is the handiwork of our enemies. Nothing like such evil took place in Abia. It is our enemies who posted the evil report on the internet to paint Abia black. Abia is not known for such atrocity,’’ Orji boiled.

He therefore enjoined the general public to disregard the report which he described as unholy, satanic and very embarrassing.

What kind of leaders do we have in this country? Why can't they investigate the incidence rather than describing a video evidence of rape as false? I can't still believe this.
