Spates of Demolition Exercises left Abuja Land-scam victims at loss as their settlements and houses were demolished by the FCDA. Reports say the indigenous Gwari/Gbagyi/Gwagwa settlers sold the land to them on fictitious claims and with spurious papers. The buyers ought to have gone direct to source yet the issue of indigenous tribes selling lands that have already being allocated to other parties to unsuspecting non-indigenes should be addressed instead of FCDA rushing in always to bulldoze non-indigenes' houses alone in the midst of while leaving scores of indigents untouched in these selective purging exercises! A tribunal should be set up to look into these matters. Armed Mopols and Police Squad teams were on scene grabbing phones, cameras and bashing folks trying to capture the experience even those who were trying to make simple phone calls got slaps and kicks for their efforts. Why the Free media Blackout? Hmm, this smells really fishy! The Area, by the way, happens to be Durumi Phase 1 & 2 districts at Apo, Garki. Lives have already been lost due to the carelessness and callousness of the Demolition handlers including a baby left in a house previously unmarked for demolition but randomly chosen on the spur of the moment! The government should come to the aid of these people else we might start having reprisal attacks; what with Boko Haram, these ones should not start another thing in FCT again.

The shacks as seen in the pics should all be brushed off with heavy bulldozers before

is this suppose to be in Abuja?
Re: Abuja Demolition Live Action! (pix Inside) by goggs(m): 8:49pm On Sep 28, 2011
infact the FCT officials didnt apply the law in full. the law says the illegal development be demolished and the owner is to pay for the exercise.

The issue is simple, every Abuja resident knows that only FCDA or the Area Council can legally allocate land, why patronise quacks? Checking the legitimacy of land in Abuja is simple at the land office or AGIS for a small fee (land search fee)

if you willingly circumvent the law, be man enough to live with the consequence. After all when floods come and people die, urban planners will be blamed for allowing the illegal developments in the first place.

Infact the speed development is taking place in some watersheds in Abuja and sorrounding areas, its a matter of time before disaster strikes. Its a remake of the bwari floods of dome years back

Anyone buying land from the Gwaris without visiting FCDA is looking for trouble.

I know that parts of Durumi are horrible slums that will create problems for urban planning now and in the future. This is just a continuation of what El rufai did in nearby  Apo which is better off today.

I feel sorry for the people affected though they saw it coming. Life aint easy for the poor within the city but there are many options on the outskirts so why dare the authorities.
