Hackers have developed more sophisticated strategies to gain access to user accounts and data servers these days. I know (for sure) they have graduated from the methods posted above.

This is true advice

http://www.netshet.org/2010/09/18/10-tips-to-avoid-hackers/

Windows Update
Firstly you have to take care of your updates. Try to find the software which are updated and meet the requirements of modern security conditions. The software you already have, update them regularly from the trusted sites. Also make your web browser and other programs to have best updates. In this way you can make your computer secure.
You can also protect your computer by updating your windows. For this purpose you must have to install original windows with a new Key. The copied windows cannot be updated because they have been installed on so many computers. So make sure that your PC have the original window and update it regularly and install the important updates. In this way you computer will be resistive to many viruses and hackers.

Anti-Virus Software
You can also use anti-virus software to protect your computer from viruses but I will advice you that always ask for complete pack of anti-virus which also include anti-spy ware software. In this way you are also secure from those type of hackers which deploy keylogger and spyware to your computer through random installation.

Anti-Malware
Malware are also type of virus which are deployed from the same hackers. Malware cannot transfer your data like spyware but this can make your programs halted and they are unable to work more. In this way they can halt your work efficiency.

Hacker-Controlled Websites
Try to not to use the websites which are not trusted. Your anti-virus provides internet security. Using such software you can secure your computer to be affected from such websites. These anti-virus programs only allow those sites to open which are trusted and are not affected. Mostly the hackers are deployed with porn websites, so try not to open such sites because to watch such stuff is work of morally corrupted people and it is against our humanity.

Spam E-Mail
There is also one source through which you can be affected and hackers can reach you. Sometimes you receive emails which are spam. Don’t open those emails you don’t need. Just open those emails you trusted on and are of your use. They sometime posted some links which are from affected websites and you can face hacking counterfeiting from them. So be careful.

Fire Wall
Genuine windows have one more option to make your computer secure that is windows fire wall. This fire wall did a great job for you. Anything which is not necessary for your computer or that can harm your computer is not allowed to access your computer by this fire wall. Just put it on once and it will do job for you without your notice.

Window firewalls alone is not good enough, you need third party software to protect your PC.

Not all spam emails are harmful, genuine emails sometimes end up in spam box.

Sometime porn
sites are safer than Facebook and other social networking websites.

Social Engineering simply means, someone knowing ur passwords or having access to ur logs, it can be ur best friend, employers have major issues with this, cos those u employ are actually the ones selling u out, go figure

How would that person get hold of those info?

For instance, ur friend might come to ur house one day, wants to use the internet and just ask u for ur password to log on, in good spirit, u tell him, lots of people do this and with just opening his email or using a usb key, installed a malware and I tell u, he can see everything u do on ur computer from his house, I work in IT security, thats why I know this, we have series of cases where managers leave their PC's unattended and boom, thats it, even connecting to free wifi at malls, stores

There is no perfect system, systems are vulnerable to virus infections, you can't tell pple not to use free ant-virus program cos its not secure.

Being careful
Digriz:

1-Do not Download any File From unknown publisher or someone u dont know.
2-in case you download that file Do not open first Look at size of file if it is under 1.5 MB Do not open it

Word documents could be less than 1.5MB and you might be tempted to open it depending on current situation or environment. For example if you receive an email containing a Word document attachment through your office email with the subject 'Staff Promotion/Salary Increase', you'll be tempted to open the attachment. Using Unicode Left to Right override, a hacker might trick you into thinking  a .exe file is actually a .doc file  e.g the Word attachment will appear to be SalaryIncreasexe.doc  instead of SalaryIncreacedoc.exe  when a hacker uses unicode Left to right override.

The computer of someone you know might be infected and acting as a bot to send emails containing fake attachments or links to contacts. If you are in you're the contact list, then you might get such email. So don't get too excited to download any file or click any web link from 'everyone'

The issue here is not whether it's free or not, I was commenting on the paradox of the above quoted.

Hi brothers,
All said on this post could only stop new entrant into systems security. Real  h * a * k *rs or penetration experts (ethical) have more sophistications that when I tell you NO one is secure , I am sure of what I am saying. Just try to be careful and pray you do not fall victim. Antivirusse, firewals, IDS, your ssl password protections are all for theories. Just make friends with an exploiter/real Linux geeks/pentesters, then you would regret why IETF never envisaged security as a problem to internetworking of things.
Those who have heard  this " the quieter you become, the more you are able to hear" should understand what I mean.
Internet is real childs play when it comes to security.
Did you know that the TCP/IP protocol on itself has vulnerabilities and backdoors
Did you know that http (GET,PUSH, PULL, Synch etc) is so vulnerable and several back-doors.
Did you know that the macros in your Windows office is real jail braker
Did you know that the SQL is unreasonable so vulnerable.
Did you know that the most deadly software is pdf

Take note  that no protection can really protect you from advanced guys. It feels cool to know what to do and how to do it embarassed

I must conclude that  when it comes to IT security  ;{the stuffs you learn in conventional class rooms just to get a piece of paper to hang on your wall is but a shadow of the real deal}
