Everyone would be better off apart, assuming the negative impact of losing oil income is cushioned.

SS would be the richest in the short term, but not necessarily in the long term. At least not if folks like me are in charge in the SW.

Don't underestimate the power of oil and gas. Also note that the SS in recent years has been developing human capacity like never before. I however agree that the SW and SE will also experience tremendous growth.

Unity and homogeneity is a key recipe for growth.
If the entire South can work together, it's even better. It's a pity we are talking of division but it's obvious Sharia and secularism cannot possibly exist within the same boundaries without bloodshed. It's either the north gives up sharia or the country will (inevitably) plunge into destruction.

The oil state will enjoy the more.
Re: If Nigeria Is Been Divide Which Part Will Enjoy It The More by ektbear: 9:23am On Sep 25, 2011
Oil and gas is fine, but doesn't at all suggest high GDP growth rates. For example, they'd likely retain an oil subsidy (and see 95% of it stolen, as is done in Nigeria), hurting their overall growth (and helping mine.)

So long as we can create an environment where our best talent in the SW rises to the top, I feel confident we can match or exceed the growth rates of any of the post-Nigeria countries.
Re: If Nigeria Is Been Divide Which Part Will Enjoy It The More by ektbear: 9:36am On Sep 25, 2011
With that said, if Fstranger types (socialists who don't understand how to design a good country or create incentives for growth/excellence) end up prominent, then yes, the SW would suck and be poor.

Lagos shall be the newest and most developed country very soon. Lagos is more than a state!. putting Lagos(republic) in the ranks of  Abia,Ekiti,Yobe,Bayelsa. . .makes mockery of everything.

SW will be most peaceful, educated & civilized, SE will grow very fast in terms of crimes  cool, SS will be the richly poor  angry, NC will be a battle front with hardworking farmers and core north will keep retrogressing for short term angry angry. Sorry but that's my hard fact.

What crime are you talking about? The crime in Lagos state alone cancels out the crime in all SE states and some states in the SS region.

Evidence for this?

Post crime rates and let's see.

I will look for it if I can lay my hands on them but am not trying to prove anything.
You should be able to tell that there are multi-multiple crimes committed in Lagos state alone cos of her population size.
One thing I have always noticed is that crime in the SE is always celebrated with so much fanfare by the press.
The crime committed in other regions are less talked about and trashed out almost immediately.

Though eventually things might not necessarily work out exactly as you envisaged for each of the new state that would emerge, I very much see your predictions as quite reasonable and plausible, considering the prevailing internal socio-economic and geo-political realities of each of the regions that would become new nation states.

Long term, most parts will enjoy it more. That is definite.
Re: If Nigeria Is Been Divide Which Part Will Enjoy It The More by kasiem(m): 7:59pm On Sep 25, 2011
I think the SSers will suffer it most, cos, when their leaders pockets the proceeds of their oil, there wouldn't be any other survival dint for them. Naturally, they're indolent and barbaric; their polluted lands will be of no farming benefit to them.
In the north, i dont see the backwardness as suffering to them, cos, backwardness is like a way of life to them. The proceeds of their farms will feed them, and it'll be "to hell with technological advancement and civilisation". The igbos will have the problem of unity, but, they'll surely advance at a high pace.

The SS will be like abu dhabi or better
Re: If Nigeria Is Been Divide Which Part Will Enjoy It The More by Onlytruth(m): 8:16pm On Sep 25, 2011
There will be some redrawing of the geopolitical zones before division. I don't see how Igbo and Efik/Ibibio will be in the same republic as Ijaw in the so called SS.
After fixing that error, then, the OFFSHORE oil will remain the property of ALL Nations carved out of Nigeria, until it dries up.

The ONSHORE oil will become the property of new countries where they are located.

So, after these house cleaning facts, then you can guess which countries would do better.

I can only guess at this stage - BIAFRA. cool
Followed by Odua
Followed by Arewa
Ijaw Nation would come last. cool

^^Why ss? how about the oil in their region?
Re: If Nigeria Is Been Divide Which Part Will Enjoy It The More by Onlytruth(m): 8:26pm On Sep 25, 2011

There is NO SS
It is only a cooked up construct to deceive people.
People in the so called SS are busy killing themselves and you say they would be in one country?
You gotta be kidding me.

their region is bereft of innovative and workaholic minds, which will deal a great blow to their fortune in absence of oil. U can see d way they lay all their survival eggs in one basket of oil revenues
Re: If Nigeria Is Been Divide Which Part Will Enjoy It The More by efisher(m): 8:38pm On Sep 25, 2011
That statement "their region is bereft of innovative and workaholic minds" is completely wrong. You need to do some research and see how the SS is seriously building human capital today. The challenge for SS is the fact that the people are not homogeneous compared to the SW or even SE.

Are you kidding me ? Those words there aptly describe the Nigerian mindset and not that of just one region.
A people producing two million barrels of oil, access to the atlantic and with a decently educated population would need the opposite of a miracle not to be one of the best places on earth.
Re: If Nigeria Is Been Divide Which Part Will Enjoy It The More by Onlytruth(m): 8:48pm On Sep 25, 2011
We are talking about a divided Nigeria right?
If that is the case, there will be NO SS.
There will be Ijaw nation; and then other nations out of that same SS.
Gerrit folks. cool

And offshore oil will remain the property of ALL countries carved out of Nigeria.
That is the only way.
Re: If Nigeria Is Been Divide Which Part Will Enjoy It The More by jason123: 8:52pm On Sep 25, 2011
Guys, there is a CLEAR difference between Ijaw Nation and the actual SS. I just can't see Edos, Itsekiris and Ilajes, even Uhrobos in the "SS" republic. I don't know about the remaining "SS" but these ethnic groups mentioned, I just can't see it happening!!!

Its like Biafra without Ibibios and Ikwerris?? It just does not make sense. Sorry!
