Chairman, Odu’a Investment Company Limited, Chief Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli, on Tuesday escaped assassination attempt along Ibadan/Iwo Road after gunmen, numbering eight, allegedly laid ambush for him. He was said to be going for a political meeting around 9 p.m with one of his political aides, Alhaji Nureni Atanda, when the incident occurred. Tuesday’s attack was the third attempt on his life.

Ali was the chief of staff to former governor of Oyo State, Senator Rasidi Ladoja before his defection to the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) preparatory to the April polls. He was attacked in 2006 at the peak of the illegal impeachment of his boss, Ladoja, when gunmen swooped on his house, over-powered his security guards before heading for his room.

He missed death by the whiskers as the suspected assassins forcefully gained entry into the room after removing the burglar proof. April this year, he was kidnapped around Iyana Church area in Lagelu Local Government, few kilometers from where he was attacked on Tuesday.

While the April attack had a semblance of armed robbery as the black Toyota Camry (2009 model) in which Alli was travelling in was snatched and he too was kidnapped before he was later dropped at Orugbo area of Odeda in Ogun State, the Tuesday attack was different, according to Atanda.

As at 3pm yesterday, when Daily Sun visited the University College Hospital (UCH), where he was rushed to after attack, seven bullets lodged in his body had been extracted by doctors at the hospital.
At about 7am yesterday, when the news of the attack spread, politicians and supporters of the politician made distress calls to ascertain his state of health at the Accident and Emergency Unit of the UCH where he was first admitted before being moved to a private suit in the hospital to avoid influx of politicians and family members.
Among the early callers to the hospital yesterday was the Group Managing Director (GMD), Odu’a Investment Limited, Mr. Jimoh Adebayo.

The ugly incident, Daily Sun gathered, has led to the postponement of reception parties being planned by the Oyo State Muslim Community, on one hand, and Concerned Friends of Sarafa Abiodun-Alli, on the other hand, which was billed for today, to celebrate his appointment as Odu’a Chairman
Narrating their experience, Atanda, who witnessed the two incidents, told journalists that the Tuesday’s attack appeared to him like the case of assassination as the gunmen, after sighting the Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) of Alli, opened fire at the owner’s corner where Alli normally sits.

The political situation in Oyo State has taken a new dimension as the Chairman of Odu’a Investment Company Limited, Chief Sharafadeen Alli, on Wednesday in Ibadan, had a close shave with death as gunmen numbering eight allegedly laid ambush for him on his way to a meeting.

It will be recalled that Alli was, in April this year, kidnapped along Iyana Church area of Lagelu Local Government, few kilometers away from where the attack on Wednesday took place.

As at yesterday, the news of the attack had spread around the city as politicians and supporters of Alli were seen making distress calls to ascertain his state of health at the Accident and Emergency ward of the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, before he was later moved to a private suite in the hospital to ward off influx of visitors.

But, by 3.00 pm yesterday when National Mirror visited him, seven bullets lodged in his body had been recovered with close aides and family members thanking God that he survived the attack. Speaking on the development, a politician in the state, Mrs. Yetunde Ajibola, lamented the attack just as she said, “Hey, I will quit politics; this is becoming too much for us to bear. Many people with whom we are eating, dining and wining are not happy with us and yet we don’t know who is who?

I want to live long and remain mother of my children.” Some of the politicians sighted at the hospital to ascertain the state of health of the Odu’a chairman included the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Waheed Olajide, the state’s Chief Judge, Justice Bolajoko, Commissioners for Works and Transport and his Finance counterpart, Alhaji Yunus Akintunde and Zacch Adelabu, respectively including some other former commissioners.

While the April attack had a semblance of armed robbery as the car, a black Toyota Camry in which he was travelling on the day was snatched while he was kidnapped and released at Orugbo area of Odeda in Ogun State, the attack on Wednesday was different.

According to the account given by one of his closest aides, Alhaji Nureni Atanda, who witnessed the two incidents, said the last attack appeared like an assassination attempt as the gunmen on sighting their car opened fire on the owner’s corner where Alli normally sits.

Atanda said when they discovered that Alli was the one behind the wheel; they ordered him to come down while they fired shots at him.

This gentleman should have placed an order for an armored vehicle right after the first attempt on his life, rather than simply leaving his destiny up to God, whose daily schedule is way too busy anyway.

No its not. Its rather a testimony that over 70% of the people living in your environment are so poor that they can kill to get some food. Nigeria is accursed land.
