Quote of the day, [for this thread so far] and the day is still young.

lagerwhenindoubt:

I don't get Nigerians,
1: We have legalized Corruption
2: We have legalized Non-Accountability
3: We have legalized Bribery
4: We have legalized Police Brutality
5: We have legalized weak Education Systems
6: We have legalized traffic-violations by uniformed men
7: We have legalized wrongful-trial
8: We have legalized Software/Music Piracy
9: We have legalized killing of Children identified as witches
10: We have legalized smoking of indian-hemp /crack-cocaine by sitting and ex-governors (one who resides on bourdillion ikoyi)
11: We have legalized strip-joints, drinking and smoking in public

What da heck p.rostitution should join the boat too

Trust me bro, we haven't legalized anything compared to developed countries, were corruption (and everything else u mentioned above) has been legalized, yes, put into law to favor the rich and the corporate world. Nigeria just lets u get away with u wrong doing if u knw ur way but its not law, over here (US & UK) its law if u're in the 1% rich or are a corporation.

Prostitution being legalized in Nigeria to me is like someone taking panadol to cure diarrhea (awfully wrong prescription). Solve the real pressing issues first and see if the human traffic volume won't reduce to a tolerable minimum (i would be lying if i said, totally eradicate it).

This move will deprive the policemen on night patrol the priviledge and liberty of arresting them prostitutes and banging them under the guise they (prostitutes)are disobeying the law.
Re: Ekweremadu Asks Senate To Legalise Prostitution by Okija_juju(m): 2:59pm On Oct 06, 2011
I support this motion, Its high time we legalize it and restrict them to an area, regulate and monitor them.

Bravo Ekweremadu,

Now let them pass this useless bill and move on to pressing issues, (Make noise pollution by churches and mosques an offence punishable by up to 10 years imprisonment)

HNosegbe:

I fail to understand the benefits of this move. How does legalizing prostitution empower women or benefit the nation? Tax revenues? Company registration? Stock market listing? Please enlighten me.

This is my attempt at helping you understand why legalizing it in Nigeria is a better way to go

a) Women's right in that country is appalling  -- The idea that Nigerians are more upright is a myth -- women(ashewos and none) are treated as sub-humans still. Legalizing prostitution will instill some level of needed RESPECT on at least this sector of the Nigerian society.

b) Legalizing this will FORCE the law to protect these women, many of whom society already treats like trash already first of all because they are women, and secondly because of the stigma still attached to prostitution in our society

c) Tax revenue is certainly a good reason, or maybe I should say a benefit, but most of all the gains that may be realized in terms of human rights improvement seem a greater reason for this.

Currently women are forced to accept a sub-human space in our society. Legalizing this already here choice for many of these women, will embolden them, and give them some incentive to help bring to book the violators in our society.

@Kobojunkie, are u hearing yourslef, you feel the best move right now to install women's rights in Nigeria is to legalize prostitution? thats just "brain fart" if u ask me.
There are other laws that can be passed that we secure womens rights and legal prostitution is not one of them abeg.

Also, your additional tax revenue would have been slightly probable if, tax revenue was the problem with nigeria, but we know better that even the oil wind fall that is more than a enough for a population the size of Nigeria is still in abject poverty. [no accountability]
Lets get our priorities right and legalizing prostitution is so so not the way to go right now.

What evidence do you have to show that Nigeria is not already a Sodom and Gomorrah or even worse? I mean that excuse for allowing the status quo to continue to old . . . and overused. We need to look for other rational reasons please.

Guy, unfortunately, this has nothing to do with Sodom and Gomorrah.
we have to debate this logically, cos this is our lives or the lives of people we love.

last time i checked i tot personal attack was not allowed, anyway, "some mothers do have them" grin
Lets be more matured about our opinions, legalizing prostitution is an ill timed discussion for now in Nigeria.

Imagine if all the goals attempt of the highest paid footballer is all from offside position.
Imagine if the highest paid striker in the world scores 5 goals every season.

That is the case of the highest paid senators in the world - Nigerian Senators.

Last week, it was the debate of legalizing same sex marriages, this week they want to give prostitutes "License" to Sin.

If their only tangible reason of attempting to legalize it is because they have failed to control it, then there are chances of them legalizing the following :

> Armed Robbery
> Oil bunkering
> Hard Drug Trafficking
> Child Trafficking
> molestation
and the rest they have all failed to reduce and control over the years.

If there are no topics to discuss at the Senate house, please go back to your constituencies and help our fellow countrymen and women who are seriously looking for food and jobs.

If these are the people that passes the law, Corruption would soon be our major export commodity apart from Crude Oil.

I hope we can all review our national anthem because it is looking more convincing by the day that "The labor of our heroes past would end up being in Vain."

Few weeks ago they were discussing same sex marriage in the senate, now it is legalizing of prostitution . they obviously have special interest in supporting and legalizing immorality. The senate leader and his deputy should make prstitution legal for thir daughters first and announce it.

No deliberate offense intended, tot i was charming and respectful in my conversations,[a lil jive here and there is never a bad idea by the way] lets call it even and move on, shall we  grin

Back to bad idea legalizing prostitution
