Two university students, Messrs. Adetope Solagbade and Odunayo Omodara, were on Thursday in Akure, Ondo State arraigned before a Chief Magistrate Court for armed robbery.

One of them, a student of a private university (name withheld), is the son of a serving commissioner in the state.

The duo were arrested by men of the anti-robbery squad on July 5, 2011.

They were charged with four counts of armed robbery and have since being remanded in prison.

A charge sheet marked: MAK/432/2011 obtained by our correspondent at the court showed that the suspects and others at large attacked their victims with dangerous weapons on the fateful date.

They were alleged to have attacked one Prof. Joseph Borede and disposed him and others of valuable items and cash.

The charge reads in part: “That you Adetayo Solagbade (m), Odunayo Omodara (m) on the 5th day of July 2011 at 0930 hours at plot 20 block A GRA, Ilesa Road Akure, did conspire together to comit felony to wit armed robbery and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 6 (a) and (b) of the Robbery and Fire Arms (Special Provision) Act Cap R II Law of the Federation of Nigeria 2004.”

The accused persons were said to have invaded the residences of their victims with UTC cutlasses, chiesel, jack knife, mask and other dangerous weapons.

They allegedly dispossessed one Falodun Ayodeji of his HP laptop computer valued at N95, 000 and one crise alarms perfume valued at N4, 250, an offence punishable under Section 1 (2) (a &b) of the Robbery and Firearms Act.
