Where are dem car aficionados!
I just helped a friend get a European spec 1999 BMW 328i and couldn't stop drooling
I am kind of making up my mind that it has to be a BMW because they have maintained that quality.

The leather in the interior was still pristine, the shocks and even the engine after 200k kilometers
I just haven't stopped congratulating my guy for the choice he made.
I just realized that the Japanese guys may just have been ripping us off. The spare parts of this car is damn CHEAP!!
Cheaper than your camry and accord. I bought a new pointer for just 1500 (that of the EOD costs 5k)
and a host of other things.

The argument then came to which has a better fuel economy. Between a V shaped engine and a straight engine
Which performs better and why has BMW still insisted on doing just straight engine?
Do they have V shaped engine and what models.

Siena, this is particularly for you!!!

^^^^^
I was starting to get worried when i didn't see you pop in!
I am eagerly waiting.

I am importantly curious to know why BMW still sticks to straight engines even when most people are doing V shaped ones. Then do they have V shaped engines>, whether 6 or 8 or even 12.

I do love to know more!!
Meanwhile more pictures

I'm not an expert but from what I have read and seen from driving a I6 jeep, its smoother, but power is not always as good as a V6 but adequate.

Sultaan,

That will be a strong argument.
My guesses are that it is easier and cheaper to build and maintain.
Also, a little easy on gas.

However, i reckon why V6 is common is because it takes less space.

i just got mine two, its straight 6 automatic black althrough its got 172 km already ,its a mad car mine is 2003 its flys ,one thine i really dont like about it is the ground clearance just too low,,,bmw are very durable if properly maintained
Re: V And I Engines, Which Is Better? Pros And Cons Of Each! by Nobody: 7:31pm On Nov 09, 2011
Both the I6 and V6 engines are great. The I6 is smoother running (the BMW I6 motor is silky smooth). The V6 is smooth too, and will make better power than an I6 of the same capacity. But undoubtedly, a V6 needs more precision balancing to match the smoothness of an I6.

The reason is in the design - the I6 is quite a long engine, so the crankshaft itself is longer than that of a V6. The longer a crank is, the more support it needs, in terms of main bearings. The V6 being shorter, the crank requires less support, and in the case of a boosted engine (turbocharged) the crank will cope with a lot more compression load.

I6 motors are used in less applications these days - BMW, older Nissan Skyline, older Mercedes-Benz etc. Mercedes have moved onto V6 engines. This change is more to do with packaging. As stated above, the I6 motor is a long unit, and requires a fairly long bonnet / engine bay to house it. BMW solved this by having the engine and transmission sit as far back in the bay as possible, cheaper than redesigning a new V6 block.

The V6 is a lot more compact, so will fit most medium-size engine bays. Generally there'll be more room between the front of a car and a V6 engine, which is good in terms of maintenance (belt, pulley, water pump replacement) and a decent gap for crash / crumpling without engine damage. The V6 is generally lighter than the I6, as long as both are made from the same material. This also makes for better handling.

So, there it is, choices, choices and more choices!

i think the V6 engines suffer a little power loss at the top end, the main reason most cars use it these days should be down to cost of production and space/efficiency...cars having the I-6 engines tend to be smaller inside or have longer engine hood. I-6 engines do not suffer mechanical vibration thus, been used in sports/race cars...vibration is a mechanical loss and this is experienced by the V6 engine (though the balance shaft tries to help).
Having said that, and back to the OP, are you talking about V engines in general (V12, V8 and V6) or just V6 and I6? An I6 is similar in mechanical dynamics to a V12, the V8 is more balanced than the V6...my little contribution

Siena: Emperoh, any updates on this car?

I wish to sadly report that this car is no more!!javascript:void(0);
My client is thanking God to be alive today.

He was involved in a fatal car crash earlier this year returning to Abuja from Enugu.
A truck rammed into him from behind, hitting him onto on coming traffic (single lane)at Kwale a few kilometers to Abuja.
On coming trailer knocked him into the bush nearby.

Front and rear passenger died on the spot. My friend was barely out of the car
before the unit burst into flames!! cry cry cry cry

God knows best!!
