WARRI— PROMOTERS for the creation of Toru-Ibe State have appealed to the governments and opinion leaders in Edo, Delta and Ondo states not to misinform or mislead Nigerians about their agitation.

Labour Party, LP, candidate for Warri North Constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly in the April 26 poll, Mr. Adanse Felix, said the agitation was about self-determination and for the Ijaw in those areas to have a state where they can freely vote and be voted for in elections.

He said: “We appeal to monarchs as well as the government of Edo and Delta states not to misinform and mislead Nigerians about Toru-Ibe State. The suffering of the Ijaw in these states is nothing more than slavery and enslavement.

“The only solution to save these fellow oppressed Nigerians is the creation of Toru-Ibe State. Its creation will certainly bring about peace and tranquility in the ever restive Niger Delta region.

“We also want to correct an impression created that the Ijaw are tenants. Let us state here that Ijaws are the aborigines of the Niger Delta including the lands they are living on.”

“What interest do these false claimants have to keep the Ijaw in Edo and Delta states? Is it to keep us in perpetual slavery, oppression, intimidation and marginalisation?”

What the Ijaw want is a state of their own, where they can develop themselves and leave peacefully with neighbours in other states.”

Igbos in Delta are different from Yorubas in Kogi in that they are not minorities in Delta. Read the Delta state website[http://www.nigeriagalleria.com/Nigeria/States_Nigeria/Delta_State.html] and you will find the 5 major ethnic groups under general information. Delta North is Igbo and you call them minority there?. Who taught you social studies in almajiri college?.

Yorubas in Kogi are not different from Igbos in delta. Here is ur link But i just changed it to Kogi

tell if it does not say yorubas in kogi as a majority. My point is people would always be marginalized anyway if there are still other groups in contention .

Between this and the calls for Anioma State, is it safe to say that a good portion of the populace want Delta divided?

alj_harem are you blind, are you not seen the satellite pictures. it show you , the west of kogi state is more populated than the east of Kogi state.

most people at that time in lokoja were mostly yoruba or ebira. this was when the state was created.

the most widely spoken language in lokoja at that time was yoruba.

Lol, JOKERS!!! The Ilajes, Itsekiris and Edos will NEVER allow such a state to be created! Over our dead bodies! We ( Western Ijaws, Itsekiris, Ilajes and Edos) are ALL EQUALS, no one is greater than the next but my Ijaw brothers should not allow greed to have a say in their judgement.

If the Ijaws say they are marginalised, what are we going to say about the Ilajes in Delta or the Itsekiris in Ondo? Ijaws; let there be peace and harmony between us, GEJ will not be there forever. Let us stop this land grabbing, please. Thank you!

Perhaps it isn't off to call Delta a microcosm of Nigeria. A bunch of people who don't really like each other or want to be together.

Anioma wants to go, Warri axis dislikes Anioma axis, Ijaws in Warri axis want a state of their own, etc.

Just seems very messy.
