@ op

sorry for the loss. would be helpful to furnish more details surrounding the circumstances of the robbery, eg time of incident, exact area you were in, what the attackers looked like and number.

this could help any future/potential victims from falling prey to their devices.

I think it is sad, irresponsible and outrightly insane that our security agencies never give us statistics and advice on crime rates in different areas f Nigeria.

If every region of a city has a crime rating and advice on what times people should be on the road or in their houses, at least citiziens will show some alertness and caution on the road.

A close friend's car (MONTERO) was snatched at gun-point along in July 2005 on the connecting Lagos Island/Ijora over-pass coming from Ikoyi. It was around 10:30PM and he noticed a mercedes car had broken down and four girls stood by it with the bonnet opened. He stopped and offered to help tow the car to a safe location and give the girls a ride home. they claimed they live in Alaka Estate. as soon as he prepared his tow cable. one of them pointed a gun at him and ordered hm into his car while the others followed closely behind. They drove instead to Boundary bustop-Ajegunle picked up two guys sped off to Apapa where he was pushed out around Coconut bustop at about 1:30 AM. He told them where the security features where and how to disarm it. His long trek back to safety saw him pick-up by the Police patrol and locked in a cell for wandering. he had no ID and No phone, all his explanations fell on deaf ears until the next morning when he was allowed to Flash his girl-friend who now came to identify him and bail him out. they later took his report and apologized as they were only being careful. He passed at least 4 Police checkpoints that night and could not do anything about it, all they did was laugh with the driver and asked to be rojad something for the night

His montero was found 3 weeks later at Ajamgbadi express way, vandalized. apparently the engine knocked. for 3 weeks the robbers used his jeep without changing the plate number of color and the police did not recover it.

If the public is given data on crime rates everyday, perhaps someone would have noticed and raised an alarm

The robbers obviously used the girls as bait as they knew a good number of men would fall for this scam.  Also i wonder if a similar incident has been repeated; 2005 is quite a while.

In Mexico, the authorities set up a website and have a free number, where people can feed in information about crime; even the police log in data on crime especially drug related. people can easily view this site and be updated on crime statistics right down to the nearest street.

Sorry about the car hijack. I hope you find your car soon. I was hoping to buy a 2003-2005 corolla in December but the way they hi-jack Toyota's these days. I might just go for a Volkswagen and drive comfortably at day or night without any fear of those thieving bastards since the police are useless.
