@JeSoul,

Unless of course they have no other viable option - and 'conservatives' cannot win a general election by themselves.
Why then do people like Bobby Jindal continue to win election in landslides even though they run in historically liberal area? What win over independents is not in showing them how we are not much different than liberals. Why should they go for liberal-lite when they can get the real thing?

They need independents and small pockets of upset liberals. Like I mentioned before, I don't like Romney. They guy is an actor and will play whatever part necessary to get elected. Unfortunately, I have no better words for Perry or Bachmann.
Romney can never win over enough liberals or independents to offset the votes he will lose from conservatives. McCain and Bush 41 have proven that.

@JeSoul,
What do you mean by an Independent Conservative? Being conservative already asserts your independence. Like I said earlier though, most independents in the US are conservative leaning.
Lol grin grin grin Na you talk am jare.

How then can one jump to the conslusion that they will break towards the socialist in the WH when they have the option to choose a conservative?
Lol. One man's socialist is another man's savior now . . . 52% of the country didn't think Obama was a socy . . . many have changed their minds - and some because he wasn't socialist enough! lol.

I agree. I was expecting more from Perry but all I got was a let down.
Honestly. With all the good things we heard he'd done down in Texas. I think in addition to his poor showings, the media has also played him in a negative light, definitely adding to the anti- sentiment.

Are you surprised that a RINO is rooting for another one? How esle will you explain his poiton? Same guy rooted for McCain in 2008 didn't he?
grin grin grin grin Lol, this is why I love TayoD  grin grin grin grin. True.

I am more inclined to vote him too. However, I think the most solid person in that field is Newt Gingrich, and I have no dobt h has the ability, knowledge and the courage to humiliate our child-president in a debate.
Gingrich hasn't got much airtime - because he hasn't raised enough money and respect - or is it the other way round? Most people who participate in primaries/polls should know enough about him but he does not seem to be able to register on any significant radars.

Tayo-D:

@JeSoul,
No doubt the climate played a part. However, the addition of a conservative to his ticket boosted him a great deal. The bottom line about McCain is that he is a RINO and that dampens the Republican base.
GBAM left right and center. I can say for a fact, I was excited to vote for Palin - not McCain and that was the way I approached it. Infact I wasn't all that interested until she came on board and lit a fire that is still raging.

What appeals to independents is the strength of your conviction. What do the independents stand for anyway? You appeal to people's reason by convincing them that what you stand for is what will benefit them. Reagan didn't go around drumming down his conservatism. He articulated them well and people realised the guy was verbalising what they feel inherently. Prior to Reagan, anyone will get away with saying: ask not what you can do for your country but what your country can do for you. REagan changed that mentality and won the election not by going the Colin Powel middle ground way by saying people do not care for the size of the govt but whether the govt works for them (my paraphrase).
This I agree with 10000000%.

On NJ Gov Chris Christie . . . I had heard tons (and seen a little) about him and how he's not a true republican/conservative - and one can sort of expect that for a rightwing politician in a liberal state like NJ or MA. But that press conference he gave to announce he was not running is an example I can point to - of one who is strong in their conviction. He commands attention and tells it like it is, whether or not you agree with him, you can see he believes what he's say and won't BS you with politically correct answers.

^this is what I want to see in a leader, strong and unrelenting. Able to take and dish a punch. Part of why I've been impressed with Herman Cain. He's been very direct and upfront - I'll take that over a polished empty suit who's simply reciting the words to the part. Which is why in a few election cycles - I will be here campaigning heavily for future president Scott Brown cool

Hehe . . . where is Prez-elect?  grin

This Bobby Jindal self . . . wasn't it he who gave some speech/state of the union or something like that rebuttal a while back? the guy put me to sleep in a few minutes  cheesy they should learn to use their national air-time wisely so people like me that don't see him often can be impressed in the short time. And your philosophy . . . it is not 100% proof oh. Come to Mass . . . Scott Brown seems to be a one-off event, even when the entire nation was reverting rightwing, Mass stayed completely Blue. Me self I tire for this place.

If he gets the nod, he will be counting on enough conservs to dislike Obama enough to "hold their noses in the booths"  cheesy

Conjecture and wild speculation. Campaign season is just getting warmed up. All Republican contenders better be prepared for all manner of B.S until Nov 12.

Obama will be re-elected. There is no Republican candidate who can beat him (at least as at now) even with his poor numbers. Even Romney is a not a strong as d pundits are portraying. He would be beaten up 20x worse than John "flip-flopper" Kerry, and his party affiliation will make d media even tougher on him. All his supposed electability strengths will vanish once d $1 billion Obama machine start putting him through d meat grinder after he secures d nomination.

Nothing will make conservatives vote in Obama, even if Arlen Specter somehow miraculously was d Republican nominee, conservatives will not vote for Obama. But I do think some might skip voting in presidential and focus on d other contests if Romney gets d nod. As for a Romney/Bachmann 2012 ticket, that has all d promise of d 2008 election. Only this time Bachmann will actually be d caricature d media made of Palin in 2008 or even much worse and Romney will look even more contradictory picking her as running mate. He already has areas he needs to protect, he doesn't need a running mate who makes it easy for Obama to come at him as a mountain of walking contradictions.

Herman Cain hmmmmmm

This has to be the worst week for Herman Cain with regards to the Sex ual harrasment allegation which was believed in many quarters to be sponsored by Rick Perry

Herman Cain was believed to have taken the Tea party supporters over from Rick Perry and its looking gloomy for the Grandfather Pizza man

He has now been compared to Clarence Thomas in the media.

There are reports that the woman in question might even come out.

shocked shocked shocked shocked

Can we say Another candidate bites the dust

GOP Voters Mostly Shrug at Herman Cain Scandal 11/4/11

A new Washington Post/ABC News poll out this morning (and conducted in the wake of the intimate harassment accusations lobbied against Herman Cain) shows him virtually tied with Mitt Romney, at 23 percent of voters to Romney's 24 percent. He's gained significant ground on Romney since the last poll, in fact. Rick Perry's advisers are almost certainly huddled up right now wondering if they can dredge up any old intimate-harrasment suits for a quick little poll bump.
and I also heard last night he has actually seen a bump in fundraising - by more than half a million since the allegations came up. Rasmussen polls I believe have Cain ahead of Romney as of yesterday. The polls & fundraising are telling us that so far, voters do not care.

People are truly underestimating how much voters dislike Romney & the rest. Short of devastatingly raw details of the allegations coming to light - proving he is guilty, it so far does not look like uncle Herman is going anywhere.

Cain's favorability drops after accusations: poll

By Steve Holland

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Allegations that Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain sexually harassed women in the 1990s have begun to damage his bid for the White House, a Reuters/Ipsos poll found.

The poll showed the percentage of Republicans who view Cain favorably dropped 9 percentage points, to 57 percent from 66 percent a week ago.

Among all registered voters, Cain's favorability declined 5 percentage points, to 32 percent from 37 percent.

The survey represents the first evidence that sexual harassment claims dating from Cain's time as head of the National Restaurant Association have taken a toll on his presidential campaign.

Herman Cain is 1/10th the sexxual harasser you are, Dayokanu.

What he was doing is child's play compared to you.

Unless your real life is so different from your NL persona.  I seriously doubt that though, considering there's no strong demarcation between your real self and your virtual self.  tongue

If you're now reformed, (yeah right!)  then I take it back.  lol. cheesy

On Topic:
A month ago, I would have predicted Obomber's republican opponent to be either Cain or Perry.

Cain might still muddle through to nomination.  Remember, Clinton was a bigger poonhound that this dude could ever be.

Shush!  Your twin is calling a press conference to engender more sympathy.  He just might scale through.  A black guy with white chicks "screaming violation" is so common in US history.  This is going to be so primal.  Just wait and see.  He's going to end up getting blacks on his side, despite the fact the akatas vote for democrats en masse.

The (very good) introductory speaker is a recognizable PI attorney in Atlanta.  Cain isn't really known in that arena, since he's not a lawyer.  But he did go to Morehouse.

BTW, make sure your sons go to Morehouse - if you continue your stay in America.  Great history and tradition there.  What am I saying?  What sane woman is gonna marry you?  hahaha.  Plan to get you some baby mommas.

Why are you quoting me for nothing?  angry tongue

Anyway, on topic:
The woman paraded by Gloria Allred has really done a lot to help Cain's case.  Look how he's huffing and puffing. lol.  Any sensible person knows that could not have happened the way she said in that press conference.

The women who filed claims and were awarded compensation?  Their stories were credible.  And Cain was looking bad, because he was changing his stories every 5 minutes.  I even heard him say, at one point, he didn't know that a settlement was ever made in the earlier cases.  I mean, who believes such nonsense?!

But now the credible complainants are going to be ignored while everyone picks this other woman's TABLOIDY story apart.  And it will be picked apart.  And Cain is smart enough to focus on the incredible woman because he knows it would serve him well.

The Herman Cain campaign has blamed the democratic machine for being the brain behind his sex ual harassment scandal, last week he blamed Rick Perry organization.

This man is definitely not ready for the rigors of the presidential campaign
