Goodbye Goodluck, but Nigerian show goes on

THE mysterious non-appearance of Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan at a packed CHOGM forum yesterday where he was scheduled to outline his country's mining potential, failed to stop his delegation launching a strong bid for investors to get on board.

Nigeria has one of the biggest delegations with more than 120 people and its towering President with his distinctive black hat has cut an imposing figure at the business forum all week.

But there was no explanation yesterday when he failed to appear for two scheduled speeches.

Nigerian Mines and Steel Minister Musa Mohammed Sada took his place, declaring Nigeria "the last frontier" for mineral exploration in west Africa as he touted for investors.

Mr Sada said substantial mining was happening in all the neighbouring countries as "big-time mining companies" recognised their mineral worth, and Nigeria wanted to join in.

"There is no scientific reason to say that such resources are not also existing in Nigeria, if not even better," he said. "We have also been endowed with the right quantities of these minerals."

He said Nigeria had identified seven "world-class" commodities, including coal, iron ore and gold.

He said coal reserves were estimated at more than 2.7 billion tonnes, iron ore more than 3bn tonnes and one gold findwith an estimated 600,000 million ounces.

Mr Sada said the government had initiated reforms to help break down investment barriers.

Another dissapointing thread with a contrived title. The word, party does not even occur once in the entire article, rather this is the way it describes GEJ:

Its best that we cut out these funny threads that bend black into white from NL.

And the RETARDEEN will come back home telling us that the best way to free up funds for infrastructural development is by removing petroleum subsidy. are all these people needed in australia? These is one of the numerous wastes we are talking about.

Why fly 120 people all the way to australia and don't show up at scheduled events? This is why the rest of the worl look at us as jokers and never to be taken seriously. These clowns just wont stop embarrassing us.

What's the presidents business here sef? The minister and a few staff should be able to handle this.

Absolute waste of time and tax payers money.

Bunch of idiots.

A delegation of 120! Are we launching a military invasion of Australia? Won't be surprised if this trip didn't cost less than half a billion Naira.

I won't blame the australian journalist for describing jonathan with such harsh word since they saw him as a lazy president who would have Ngozi iweala decides while he looks.why travel with 120 people ? For what ? I guess for patience's birthday !
Re: Gej Did Not Show Up At CHOGM by olawalebabs(m): 7:09pm On Oct 27, 2011
That entourage is just too large. Imagine the hotel accommodation, feeding and the estacode each will cart away, this same government is still shouting about reducing the cost of governance. What a pity?

You think the drinking is a rumour?

Why do you think he is always smiling even when nothing is funny?

He is in the "Spirit"

Drunk Fisherman, Tinubu must have seen through Retardeens dazed looks to call him that name

Fortunately for Nigeria, GEJ is President while Tinubu is the fraudulent wannabe on the road to nowhere.
But who am I to disturb the vulture party? Carry on, sir! grin

Is the party on? Kai! i no fit shout.
This has been his style of governance right from his days is Bayelsa. You voted in fresh air so, why the complain?.

Wait until when they flooded the local news with many lies in form of fake MoU signed blah blah.

All hail to President Patience Jonathan and her husband. For those still wondering why these vampires are sooooo heartless, resurrect our pre-election banters.

Lol @120 officials?? Are they going for olympics.

May there be a plane crash. Amen!

Plz you guys, the only thing he did wrong was not showing up to his meeting.

Nothing wrong with a man spicing up his marriage, surprising his wife with sweets and whip cream. I only hope that it wasnt Nigeria's money they spent.

BTW, If I recall, werent most of these pro-GEJ pissed off when we had 100-200 politicians traveling or sth like that. Cant point my finger on the exact event.

SOMETIMES, when you're a bit down on your luck, a rare moment of radiance appears as if from the ether and lifts your whole day. And so it appeared to be when Prime Minister Julia Gillard found herself greeting the much bejewelled and marvellously named Goodluck Jonathan, President of Nigeria, and his friends.
Jonathan, accompanied by his wife, Patience, and an official retinue ''of a cool 170 people!'' that wouldn't be out of place among the diamond-ear-studded homeboys who regularly surround rappers from, say, Harlem, fairly lit up Perth's Pan Pacific Hotel.
Gillard, who has been out of fortune in the polls of late, happily bathed in the infectious enthusiasm of Goodluck, Patience and their colleagues.

when one considers the cost of airplane tickets to Australia (how much is it from Naija?) for the 120+ delegates, most of whom must have used first class, their estacodes, hotel accommodation, etc, then the figure shouldn't be implausible.

Freely was the 'oyel' given, and lavishly shall we spend the revenue that accrues from the oil.

Our god is a god of prosperity.
