One wonders where they got the idea to build these castles from? Its amazing how similiar architectural styles crop up in different cultures that are not close to each other.

Djenne

Founded between 850 and 1200 A.D. by Soninke merchants, Djenne served as a trading post between the traders from the western and central Sudan and those from Guinea and was directly linked to the important trading city of Timbuktu.

I’m curious about something. Those pictures Igbo2011 posted of Benin; were those real birds sitting on top of the towers (as birds do) or were they something ornamental the people put there?? Silly question, I know, but I’m really wondering about it.

BlackLibya, in that last picture you posted of the Amoafo, Asante Kingdom 1890, I notice it has a big tree between the habitats and further down another big tree is lined up. Do you know if this was common place to plan their cities like that? The way the people are standing around the tree in the front, one can tell that it must have been a popular meeting/resting place.

EzeUche: Emperor Fasilides castle and St George Church. Ethiopia is fascinating. I never tire looking at those.

Has anyone here actually been to Timbuktu?

Keep them coming guys. This is a beautiful thread.

Meroe (Sudan)

Meroe in Shendi – (Sudan) is an ancient city that dates as far back as 300 B.C. The ancient city’s most prominent landmarks are some two hundred  pyramids still standing within the city. Kingdom of Kush or Cush was an ancient African state centered on the confluences of the Blue Nile, White Nile and River Atbara in what is now the Republic of Sudan. It was one of the earliest civilizations to develop in the Nile River Valley. Having also been referred to as Nubia

Im not sure, there was a book written by a European who stayed in Kumase that would probably give you a better idea. He was completely fascinated with what he found there, and the Europeans at the time lambasted him and said that what he had written was impossible because it didnt fit in with their previously held convictions.

I wish I knew his name, someone mentioned it in one of the forums I found the pictures in but I dont have the link anymore.

The Asante were not one of them, but I was reading about the Igbo people and the Nri Kingdom in which the ruler of the kingdom excercised no military authority, the only of its type in the world. I couldnt find anything on whether they had an army or not, but if they didnt, it would be even more amazing. Reading about them, the Igbo seem to have had accomplished an economic system that many people consider impossible to this day, communism.

Showcasing past glory. China people can post pictures of modern buildings which they are constructing now. Us blacks have nothing to show off for our generation, only praising our clever forefathers

That is wrong, 6 of the 10 fastest growing economies are in Africa. Also Nigeria is the second fastest growing construction market in the world. There are many projects going on as we speak. There would be more but Boko Haram is messing things up. Go here for more details: http://www.skyscrapercity.com/forumdisplay.php?f=2961

Angola is growing fast too: http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=768830&page=2

What is a modern building? A western style building?

Chinese people are lost too, they are constructing western style buildings which are not their own. 5,000 years from now people will look back and think America colonized the world.

@Rossikk

Very nice pictures but most if not all those buildings were designed by white architects, overseen by white civil engineers and financed by white investors or white money borrowed to black governments to be used on white owned construction companies. Black people should not be proud of that

This is a Wikipedia's list of Africa's tallest buildings. I will be humbled if you point out even one building that is black designed, constructed and financed.

So there are no African or chocolate people working in western companies? Or none own western companies? Jude Igwemezie is the chairman of Transcorp a corporation in Canada. http://www.globim.com/news-mou.html

There are many African architects companies and construction companies who build roads and houses. Why do you have an inferior complex?
Eko Atlantic is being built with African architects and construction firms. If you knew your history you would know that chocolate Africans built the pyramids. Or do you think the aliens did that like these people:

This is called the deconstruction of African history. Takes our history destroy it or rewrite it. The REAL father of medicine was Imhotep NOT Hippocrates. The Greek stole everything from Egypt and took it as theirs.

Did you ever hear about the Moors? Chocolate Africans colonized Spain portugal Italy and south France for 780 years. This is a FACT!.

Am I lying when I claim that most if not all the buildings shown by Rossikk in his pictures were designed by white architects, overseen by white civil engineers and financed by white investors or white money borrowed to black governments to be used on white owned construction companies?

You also one of those who are stuck in the past. Whites stole lots of ancient Chinese technology and past it as their own. The difference is that the Chinese are not stuck in the past. Instead of them giving examples of ancient achievements they are more interested in telling people about what they just built last year using Chinese architects, Chinese engineers and Chinese money.

Most of the countries in Africa are controlled by foreign powers. Did you know that 90% of Franco phones government income goes to France? This is going on NOW. The french also control their economies because of the currency. Why don't you think about that? Check this video out:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wHduddO7ZaU

Honestly, African countries don't have enough of an army to defend itself that is why it happens. That is why the US went to Vietnam, Iraw, Afghanistan etc. Those countries cannot defend itself. China and Russia can defend theirself so they won't do the same things to them.

Also all of the money from the west was STOLEN from around the world. Also the same dictators who get the resource money put all the money into western banks. If all the corrupt African politicians who are controlled by the west stop put all the money back into Africa then the west would be more broke than it already is.

Have you heard of Odious debt? Money from loans that don't go to the actual projects. Most African countries are in debt and the first country to stop debt was Nigeria in 2007. The only ones who have no debt is Gaddaaffi and he is DEAD over a BS war in Libya. Open your eyes man.
