2010 Audi Q5:
Dear Siena, I intend to come back to Naija with a 2010 Audi Q5 and I dwell in the Eastern part of the Nigeria. My problem is the availability of a good, reliable and worthy mechanic as well as access to relevant parts that could be required to repair the car anytime it breaks down (it is certain a vehicle must break down sometime). What do you advise?. Are there any good Audi mechanics in the East that you know?. How can the car be properly cared for when in Nigeria?. Please i will like to hear from you as I really like the car and its performance here but all things Naija seems to be different so one need an expert view before coming home with a car that cannot be maintained due to dearth of or non existent technicians. You can as well reply me inbox so i can see it immediately - edgediamond@hotmail.com. In the alternative, you can email to me your contact so we can talk. Thank you.

Hello Mr. Sienna,

Great work you are doing here. Pls I need your help. I just helped a friend buy an 08 Nija used Passat FSI in Lagos. I sent the car down to my friend in the East, as the vehicle was getting to edo state, it began loosing speed, and there was some smoke coming out of the car like it was over heating. the guy driving it parked and realized the water was low. After a while, he added water and continued his journey. but the car wasnt still picking up as much speed. He parked the car and when he tried to move again the car wont go into gear.
I called the guy that worked on the car here in Lagos, he suggested that the refill/replace the gear oil. after replacing the gear oil, the car only moved on reverse but not on drive. then later it just didnt go into gear any more. The vehicle was finally towed to benin city, where a mechanic said the gear box has been worked on and it would need replacment.
Pls what do you think can be done or how much can i get a gear box for this car.

thanks alot

Hi Siena, is it OK to use refrigerants with a "stop leak" feature?

I fear it could cause blockage in the ac system but I don't know where to source for more information

Siena:

Power steering issues. Squealing / groaning from belt area. Most likely causes:

a) Power steering pump drive belt loose.
b) Power steering pump drive belt worn.
c) Power steering fluid level low.

The power steering vane pump is under constant pressure whilst the engine is running. This pressure increases when the wheels are in any other than the straight ahead position. So when the wheel is turned either way, the drive belt is under extreme stress. If the belt is loose, it will slip on the pump pulley when the wheel is turned, giving the characteristic "squealing." Taking up the belt tension by adjustment will stop this, but much depends on how long it's running slack.

The Audi A4 1,8 20V engine has a separate belt to drive the power steering vane pump, with manual adjustment. If in doubt of the belt's integrity, replace it. They're relatively cheap to buy, fitting is about 10 minutes.

Check the power steering fluid level, and top up if low. Do not use ATF, as in BMW and most Japanese vehicle's power steering systems, it will destroy the seals in the pump and rack, resulting in massive leaks. Replacing the steering rack in the B5 A4 with the engine in situ is a beast of a job, you don't want to kill it! Your car uses Mineral Hydraulic Oil in the power steering system. It's green in colour.

Power steering fluid for the Audi A4 B5:

Genuine Audi: G002000.
Pentosin: CHF 11S.
Febi-Bilstein: 06162.

Or any other mineral oil that meets CHF 11S spec.

The power steering pump and belt are shown below, for reference. Vane pump (#1) Vane pump drive belt (#2) Vane pump pulley (#4).

Awesome dude...
