I'm doing the whole thing.” An industry insider said, “Dr. Dre is producing the record, which is huge because Dre hasn’t produced an album in years.” The insider added, “Dre is on rival label Interscope, and while Def Jam and Interscope are both under the Universal umbrella, people have their noses out of joint. This album will be huge. But first of all, Jay is not using a Def Jam producer, and second of all, he will be competing with his own artists. Not cool. His ego is so big he can’t not release an album. He is a president of a label and should not be doing this.” Meanwhile, the Grammys took place last week, with Kanye West, John Legend and Mariah Carey being the biggest urban winners. Rapper BUSTA RHYMES allegedly attacked a magazine publisher with a bottle of champagne during a music conference on Sunday night (26MAR06). The BREAK YA NECK singer was in Miami, Florida, attending the Winter Music Conference when he allegedly smashed the bottle on The Source magazine publisher DAVID MAYS' head. Eyewitnesses claim the pair got into a scuffle at celebrity hot spot Opium. Mays ended up in the emergency room and reportedly received stitches for a gash in his head. Rhymes has yet to speak publicly about the incident; Mays has not filed a police report. A witness tells the New York Daily News, "Mays got around 50 stitches in the back of the head." Many artists signed with Rhymes' management company, Violator, including 50 CENT and EMINEM, have had disputes with Mays over his coverage of them in The Source.

NICOLAS CAGE and rapper 50 CENT will team up on the big screen for THE DANCE, a film based on the life of prison boxing coach BILLY 'THE KID' ROTH. Once a successful prizefighter, Roth has spent more than 40 years as a volunteer boxing coach in Louisiana state prisons. Cage will play Roth, while 50 Cent, whose real name is CURTIS JACKSON, will play an inmate the coach believes has the talent to be a contender - the only hindrance being that he is serving a life sentence. The project is based on a 2003 documentary that Cage executive produced with hopes of turning it into a feature film.

Earlier this week (25APR06), a press release seemingly issued from Jackson's new record label, the Bahrain-based Two Seas Records, claimed the BAD hitmaker was working with the hip-hop star, newcomer LUCY DIAMONDS and DJ WHOO KID on the song NOW THAT I FOUND LOVE on a mixtape named MJ UNIT - THE TAKEOVER. However, Two Seas spokeswoman SUE HARRIS has denied the collaboration will take place and confirmed the press release was phony. She tells MTV.com, "I do not know who put this story out, certainly not us. But it doesn't surprise me. "As far as we are concerned, details regarding the recording of Michael Jackson's albums are being kept under wraps. We will not be making any comments as to who may or may not be working with Michael Jackson in the studio. We will not be making any announcements, nor will we be reacting to any speculation or reports in the media." The CANDY SHOP rapper recently attended the wake for slain rapper Proof, real name DESHAUN HOLTON, who was gunned down earlier this month (11APR06) at a nightclub Detroit nightclub. He says, "He's coming along. He's going to be all right. I mean, it was definitely a big loss for him. "Proof was actually his best friend in the world from forever." The rapper insists that the sometimes violent lyrics in hip-hop music did not play a role in Proof's murder. He adds, "I think that the violence that happened to Proof and the violence that's happening across America right now has nothing to do with hip-hop.
