Islam is a religion for all time. there is no subject not touched directly or indirectly-that is either in details or in principle. however, there are modern issues, or issues that developed after the departure of the Prophet (sa) that were subject to applying the principles of Islam. the basis for Ashura from what are i know are:

1.) Imamate
2.) the Quranic verse of mawaddah
3.) the Sunnah of the Prophet (sa).

for example, on Ashura some people use that as a symbolic opportunity to donate blood, instead of self-flagellation or tatbeer done by a minority among Shias. any act of kindness or love towards the Prophet's (sa) household is commendable. more so when you are spreading their legacy and reviving their memory, and marking a day that holds so much in Islam; that if not for this day, the deen of Allah (swt) was subjected to existential threat that Allah (swt) defeated through the blood of Imam Hussain (as) and his household and companions.

this is a verse used to support polygamy. in my view, it is a verse that can be seen as promoting monogamy instead of polygamy. the verse says "marry one", after giving the option of two, three or four with a condition that you do justice. so polygamy is an option and not an obligation. there are things Islam gave you options on so you can use your intellect and use what is best for you, and avoid what would put burden upon you.
