Ogun State Governor Ibikunle Amosun yesterday said that in the next six months, the state would be the highest producer of cement just as he urged investors to continue to partner with government in the development of the state.

Amosun, who was speaking while on facility tour to Dangote Cement at Ibese, said that the state would take full advantage of Dangote Cement Company and partner with other investors to transform the state economically.

He said, “The present administration is providing an enabling environment for businesses to thrive. Every disincentive to business is being removed and with the coming of Dangote Cement to the state, Ogun will soon be the highest Cement producer in the world.”

He promised better returns on investments in the state even as he said that the nation should diversify its economy with the aim of restoring the glory of the country.

He urged the management of the company to provide necessary infrastructure in the community to enhance development and employ indigenes in order to reduce unemployment rate in the state.

In his remarks, the President of Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, said his interest was to contribute to making Nigeria an industrial giant.

Lol @ highest in world.

Highest in Nigeria, probably. And highest of any sub-national unit in West Africa, also very probable.

@EKt Bear. Amosun speaks confidently because of DANGCEM (Dangote Cement) effort to expand its Ibese plant and double output. I agree that "highest in the world" is a tad optimistic.

Dangote Cement Signs Contract to Expand Nigeria Ibese Plant

By Vincent Nwanma - Nov 30, 2011 12:25 PM GMT

Dangote Cement Plc (DANGCEM), Nigeria’s biggest company by market value, signed a contract to expand its Ibese plant, Chief Operating Officer Joseph Makoju said.

The expansion will double output at the 6 million-metric ton plant in southwestern Nigeria, Makoju said today at a conference in Lagos.

Signing the agreement early helped Dangote get “a good price for the construction for almost half of the price,” Makoju said, without specifying the cost of the project or saying with whom the contract was signed. Construction will be completed in three years, he added later at a meeting with investors.

Dangote decided to start construction early to help meet demand for cement in Nigeria, Makoju said. Demand for cement in Nigeria, sub-Saharan Africa’s second-biggest economy and the continent’s most populous nation, may rise 45 percent in 2011, Stanbic IBTC Bank Plc said in a report in a report last year.

Dangote Cement is the biggest company traded on the Nigerian Stock Exchange with a market value of 1.63 trillion naira. The company’s parent, Dangote Industries Ltd., has a 64 percent stake in Sephaku Holdings Ltd. (SEP), a South African mineral exploration and development company that also produces cement.

Dangote Cement said in April that its total annual production capacity should reach 50 million tons in five years. The company may build one production line with an annual capacity for 10 million metric tons instead of two lines producing 6 metric tons a year because “unit investment will be cheaper than two lines doing 6 million,” Makoju said.

Dangote Cement shares were unchanged at 105.10 naira by 12:18 p.m. in Lagos. The stock has fallen 12 percent this year, compared with a 20 percent decline in the Nigerian Stock Exchange All-Share Index over the same period.

Any smart government will make effort to encourage private investors like Dangote. It's an easy way to develop the state without spending much. Nice one.

To think that some people were arguing with me about Ogun state being the cement capital of Nigeria. Though i think very soon they'll be the number 1 cement producer in Nigeria.

He might be right. Lafarge Cement factories in Ewekoro and Sagamu combined with Dangote Cement, Ibese which begun 'test production' last month might make Ogun State the highest cement producer. Maybe in Africa but I don't know about the world o o.

The guy's right. The combination of lafarge and Dangcement will make Ogun state the highest producer of cement in Nigeria.Lafarge just commissioned the Lakatabu plant which has doubled their cement output. But then, the industrialisation we are seeing in Ogun is not as a result of any positive impact of the state government. The Amosun guy should leave all these stories and just focus on atleast 'keeping the banks opened in his state'

I agree with you. This governor is making mouth with another man's achievement. He sounds like an over optimistic sychophant. Even Dangote's response to his comment shows it.

Has he constructed any of the roads leading to the industrial zones and he is asking Dangote to do the roads and create jobs. What is his own contribution in creating an enabling environment apart from harboring the God-given natuural resources?
