The top goal scorer in the Glo Premier League, Emmanuel Baffour has made the Black Stars Afcon squad reports the GFA website. He got the chance to fight for a place in the final squad at the Nations after he was named in the 25-man party for pre-tournament camping.

Baffour whose hot streak of eleven goals in eleven games for New Edubiase has won him many friends in Ghana is the only home based outfield player in the side.

Ghana coach Goran Stevanovic who barely watches local games told a joint meeting of the emergency committee of the GFA and the Black Stars management committee that he picked the striker on the advice of his assistant Kwesi Appiah.

He is one of five strikers for the pre tournament camping with at least one of them likely to drop out.

The others are Asamoah Gyan, Prince Tagoe, Derek Asamoah and Jordan Ayew.

The squad will arrive South Africa on the 7th of January and will camp in Rustenburg, their South Africa 2010 Fifa World cup abode until January 19 when they depart for Gabon where they’ll be based in Franceville alongside Botswana, Mali and Guinea

They will play friendly matches with PSL top side Kaizer Chiefs and also square up against Bafana Bafana

Veteran Goalkeeper, Richard Kingston will be missing from the backline.

Ghana’s midfield going to this tournement will have a new complexion with Essien and Kevin-prince Boateng missing as would former captain Stephen Appiah.

The expérienced Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien, so influential at Ghana 2008 but as in Angola 2010 out injured. They have become accustomed to playing without him in recent times even missing him alltogether at the World cup

How they could have done with the in-form Kevin Prince-Boateng but he has called time on his short international career with the Black stars However, they will not be short of talent as they still have Sulley Muntari and Kwadwo Asamoah.

The Black stars will look to top striker Asamoah Gyan to again inspire another run and hopefully look to the Ayew Brothers whose recent fine form in front of goal have been making waves with Olympique d’ Marseille , but they will have to comptete for starting slots along with Derek Boateng and Prince tagoe as well as Glo ghana premier League leading scorer, Emmanuel baffour from new Edubiase.
