^No, it is hibernating. There were times when this thread was shaking-up Nairaland like an earthquake. It can't continue like that now. Having said that, if anybody is feeling down, we can talk about it if they will share.

Funny thread. Nigerians and their bewildering habit of being too involved in other people's private issues.

There is a young man feeling suicidal who posted this afternoon on the topic "HIV positive three days to wedding". The topic is in the health section. People, please reach out to him.

I do not know if he's jobless or not and I'm not a mental health specialist but it does not cost anything to reach out to someone like that. In fact, I would be happy to know he's not serious.

Oh gosh, sighs. What I mean is thanks for giving the jobless people currently fighting on this section something to ponder about. My post has NOTHING to do with the guy.

Lord no, HIV is real and the current stats is 400,000 Nigerians are affected and don't know yet, and yet people refuse to play safe and come home and give it to their wifey, God save us.

After reading sad news about suicide here https://www.nairaland.com/1026124/2-students-commit-suicide-over-waec-exam-failure, I feel this thread needs to be back-up. Maybe, just maybe it may save a life.

^I feel the same way too, this issue of suicide is really on the increase in this country and something urgently needs to be done about it.
Re: Are You Feeling Suicidal? Come Here First! by maclatunji: 10:38am On Aug 23, 2012
I blame it on the media, people are getting exposed to concepts and ideas that are not beneficial and it is becoming alarmingly obvious that not everyone can properly handle the information they are bombarded with everyday.

What can be done? Well, I think the government should realise that there is an increase in the number of Nigerians with poor psychological health (I don't want to use the word "mental"wink. We need to pay more attention to psychology and psychiatry, people should be given help when they need it, not scoffed-at or stigmatised.

Personally, I am a busy person but I can always spare time for someone who is desperate enough to commit suicide. If anybody reading this is in such a position, we can always talk.

Internet sweet long epistles aside, how do we relate to the people (colleagues, employees, strangers, needy) we come across daily?how do we treat the people we see as 'failures, no good'? How do we treat people below our 'class' ?

A simple smile, saying sorry or thank you goes a long way!

I read in one of the dailies about a married man killing himself over a loan the wife took to assist him in building a home for the family. The man lost his job, wasn't servicing the loan anymore and neighbours were making fun of him. Long story short, the man took his life.
May God help us sha. The country is messed up, people get tired of hustling with nothing to show for it, the rich and blessed are throwing it at their faces and some see suicide as the solution.

May God help us.

Hmmm... the truer the bolded becomes, the more trouble we shall witness in Nigeria. Karl Marx's theories would become applicable and that can only mean one thing: "Revolution". I hope our leaders take note.
