An attempt to bomb the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, by members of the Boko Haram sect has been foiled by police and the neighbourhood watch, in Udenu local government area of Enugu State.

On the eve of Christmas, an alleged member of the Boko Haram was arrested between Imilike Agu and Ogboduaba communities in Udenu LGA, Enugu State, allegedly on a mission to bomb University of Nigeria, Nsukka and one other higher institution of learning in Enugu State capital.

A source who pleaded anonymity, said the neighbourhood watch cited a man with strange movement and alien dressing, accosted him for clarification, explaining that he confessed his membership of the Boko Haram sect on a mission to bomb the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.

The alleged Boko Haram member came out of a forest where he and his accomplices had stayed for several days to buy cigarette but could not locate his way back to the forest before his arrest.

“When he was searched, some explosives were discovered on him, while he was later handed over to Obollo-Afor police division for further interrogation,” the source said.

He further said that the apprehended member of the sect also took them to their hide-out in the forest only for others to flee on sensing danger.

It would be recalled that earlier this year, the Boko Haram issued stern threat to bomb the University of Nigeria, Nsukka and other universities in the South East zone.

Contacted for comment, Enugu State Police Public Relations Officers, PPRO, Mr. Ebere Amarizu, confirmed the report, saying the alleged Boko Haram member who hailed from Kano State, behaved as though he was insane.

The PPRO, noted that there were no explosives recovered from him as widely rumoured, explained that the suspect was currently in police custody while investigation was ongoing.

If truly they attempted to bomb a school in the south east, it will be obvious that they are looking for a way to spark off a reprisal or even a bloody massacre of Muslims in the SE. With the way students behave, it may be very difficult to stop them from embarking on a massive attack on everything Islamic, including muslim students.

The provocation is getting too much and if a bomb goes off in the East courtesy of Boko Haram then Nigeria is clearly over. Cos there will be full scale response!

Not sure how true this is, but if true, if I were a northerner living in the East, I will be packing my belongings in readiness to flee. Looks like their brothers up North are willing to sacrifice them. The rebuttal will be massive.

Good news they were apprehended, i am suspecting some people want a civil war to break out, between the north and other tribes, may God have mercy so their plans would fail!
Re: Purported Attempt By Boko Haram Members To Bomb Unn And Another School Foiled by odumchi: 4:52am On Dec 28, 2011
In all honesty, the reason I think most people are quiet regarding the bombings are because its happening only in the Far North. If ever the bombing touches down into the East, na war be dat. Easterners aren't the type of people that tolerate such nonsense, and Enugu and Anambra states are known to be well organized and vigilant, I'm not sure the same can be said for Miaduguru or Kaduna.

My wish is for peace, but if Boko Haram want to kill people, it it be themselves they should leave innocent people alone.

Ohanaezė losakwa o. Aha agawala isu na obodo.

This is such a dumbass story by a police force looking to regain whatever shred of credibility it can after their already legendary incompetence was taken to new levels by the Christmas day bombings. Please stop all the talk of provocation and read the tori again:

An attempt to bomb the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, by members of the Boko Haram sect has been foiled by police(indeed) and the neighbourhood watch, in Udenu local government area of Enugu State.

On the eve of Christmas, an alleged member of the Boko Haram was arrested(and we heard nothing of it till today) between Imilike Agu and Ogboduaba communities in Udenu LGA, Enugu State, allegedly on a mission to bomb University of Nigeria, Nsukka and one other higher institution of learning in Enugu State capital.

A source who pleaded anonymity, said the neighbourhood watch cited a man with strange movement and alien dressing, accosted him for clarification, explaining that he confessed his membership of the Boko Haram sect on a mission to bomb the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. grin grin grin just like that

The alleged Boko Haram member came out of a forest where he and his accomplices had stayed for several days to buy cigarette but could not locate his way back to the forest before his arrest.

“When he was searched, some explosives were discovered on him, (na wa o. You're out to buy cigarette yet you carry IED on you, considering how volatile those things are. smh. these guys must think we are all slow) while he was later handed over to Obollo-Afor police division for further interrogation,” the source said.

He further said that the apprehended member of the sect also took them to their hide-out in the forest only for others to flee on sensing danger.

Contacted for comment, Enugu State Police Public Relations Officers, PPRO, Mr. Ebere Amarizu, confirmed the report, saying the alleged Boko Haram member who hailed from Kano State, behaved as though he was insane. (Most likely. Now how does picking up a mad man on the street become news?)

The PPRO, noted that there were no explosives recovered from him as widely rumoured, explained that the suspect was currently in police custody while investigation was ongoing.

This is what happens when selfish nigerians like obasanjo refuse to allow a country like nigeia which is on the brink of breaking have a round table talk. That man had the opportunity to mend the ills and pains in the heart of the various tribes, but for selfish reasons, he stood against it. A national conference would have addressed the boko haram and other issues. Now innocent blood is spilled allover the country. Its sad to have such people as leaders.

I also laugh when I read people living outside Nigeria making noise about Ndigbo. You better retain your NdiAmerica, NdiBritian and NdiEurope identities.

The only people that make noise about Ndigbo in Nigeria are the politicians. The average Igbo man is tending his business and not bothered about Ndi-anything.

The story of our journalists is nothing but bunkum and gibberish. How could they have penned such a canard?
Boko Haram dare not bomb anywhere in the East or West. They have not got the temerity and bravity. Of course they know the implications.
So, away with the above spurious and misleading tidings.
Balderdash!

I don't believe the story from the first paragraph to the last full-stop. Anytime Boko Haram bombs a place, the Nigerian police will 'foil' another attack within three days. The other time was their spokesman, supplier of bomb-making materials, discovery of their bomb factory, etc. Have they got no shame?
But, on a more serious note, the Boko Haram are welcome to the South East, and I hope they start with Aba. . .
Re: Purported Attempt By Boko Haram Members To Bomb Unn And Another School Foiled by Kc3000: 7:42am On Dec 28, 2011
So, The Vanguard and their journalists, or perhaps the police itself, cooked up this story? Is that what I'm hearing from some people? If you were not present at the location, at the said time, how can one confidently sit somewhere, cross one's leg, and dismiss the report. Only a first class i.diot would completely disregard this report, given the happenings in this country of ours. Has boko haram not been delivering on most of their threats? I also hope that the report is false, but how could I possibly sit in the comfort of my home and wave off this report, with all that has been going on in Nigeria? If it is true, I thank God for averting the disaster, and encourage all Nigerians to be as vigilant as possible.
Trust, nobody wants to see a full scale war in Nigeria, at the same time, nobody wants to be on the receiving end of unprovoked violence. I truly fear for the future of this country, because I know that if Boko keeeps heading in the direction that they are going, soon enough they would hit people where it truly hurts and retaliation would be inevitable. We've been through these episodes before, where violence erupts in the north, with reprisals in the east, but it would take on a different dimension if a massive attack actually occurs in the south. I don't believe the average Nigerian wants anything to do with a war, but in the same token, no one ever thought Nigeria would find itself in the 3 year civil war that we had. My observation, even in a one-on-one confrontation, is that there is usually a threshold that is not easily discernible,  and usually only observed with the benefit hindsight, at which what seems like mild provocations quickly erupts into a situation beyond anyone's control. How far are we from this threshold?

So you don't believe that the story can be sponsored by the police in a bid to do some good to it's 'credibility'? Maybe you're a 2nd class Lower i.diott, that's why.

wtf is this - an attempt of some police to make themselves look competent and their comrades in chest beating endorsing this ridiculous charade ?

The alleged Boko Haram member came out of a forest where he and his accomplices had stayed for several days to buy cigarette but could not locate his way back to the forest before his arrest.

some macabre humor for these sad times

Lmao. Imagine the rubbish story and all these mugus come dey get hard-on like say dem pop 20 viagra and 18 Cialis pills come take ogogoro complete the co*cktail.

It just seems to me that a certain section of the country, totally forgetful of recent history, is dying to go to war again. SMH.

When you guys will realize that this is none of your business it will be too late. All I see is "goading"; now the madness has gone into the media, na for kasala to burst na im remain next.

But, when that war that you all are itching for finally breaks out, 5yrs from now (when another surrender has been forced)  I don't want to hear screams and cries of "Saboteurs"," Sell-outs", "Back-biters" or "Cowards".

Notice you're the only ones screaming "Southern Nigeria". Notice, Also, that you're the main ones screaming Christian v Muslim. Because, when what you're pushing for finally happens, I'm pretty sure (just because you are all members of a single faith in your Region) you wouldn't reasonably expect those from other Regions that are inter-mixed with different faiths to start butchering their family members just so you can achieve your dreams and aspirations.

If you cant see the handwriting on the wall that nobody will join you in any silly adventure, then I suggest you get your eyesight checked. Its so sad that you lot clearly haven't learned from history.
