BMW M3 in Nigeria will be personal import only.

You've just confirmed what I suspected - sellers on Nairaland, and even Nigeria generally misrepresent what they're selling. Sometimes down to ignorance, sometimes plain fraudulent.

There is no BMW M3 with a diesel engine. The M3 is the most powerful, performance-oriented 3 series available, and all the engines are petrol, not diesel.

I wasn't referring to you, Dollz. I'm referring to the guy advertising a diesel-engined BMW M3, when they don't exist. And dealers that misrepresent their products in general.

@ poster,

i would imagine that any M3 in Nigeria will be specially imported. Its not a car that you just "buy" without determination. Everyone that has it are always determined to get one and they most of the time know what they are after.

Its not a car that you just "happen upon". You cannot be shopping for a Camry/Accord and when you get to the car shop decide to "settle" for M3.

PEOPLE SAVE UP. CHOOSE A DAY AND LEAVE THEIR HOUSE TO GO AND BUY M3! grin

What year are you looking for by the way?

Good luck out there.

Re: Are There Bmw M3's In Nigeria by Nobody: 4:45pm On Jan 01, 2012
Just to help my guy, and make him really work towards getting one:

1) BMW M3 E30, 1986 - 1992. The first generation BMW M3, based on the BMW E30 3 series. Every panel, bar the hood were different, and unique to the M3. It had 5-stud wheels, larger brakes, bulging wheel arches to accommodate the wider wheels, unique interior and the engine was a 2,3 I4 DOHC 16V unit. Smaller than the 325i 2,5 I6, but more powerful. It was a high-revving unit, and due to its size, lighter than the 6 cylinder versions. It also had individual throttle bodies.

The E30 M3 was one of the best handling cars in its day, the suspension was built for the track, so not very comfortable on rough roads. They were also LHD only. The Evo version had a slightly larger engine displacement, at 2,5L, but still the same I4 configuration as the 2,3. Power was also increased, and it was substantially quicker than the regular M3, and quite rare. All E30 M3's were hand built by Baur, the Coachwork Specialists, which added to their rarity, and high residual values. Besides the E30 M3 Coupe, there was the much rarer E30 M3 Cabriolet, with just 786 produced worldwide.

ENGINE

BMW E30 M3.

2,302cc I4 DOHC 16V.
Fuel type: Petrol.
Fuel system: Individual Throttle Body Injection.
Power: 215 bhp.
0-60 mph: 6,7 secs.
Maximum speed: 149 mph (240 km/h).

BMW E30 M3 Evo.

2,467cc I4 DOHC 16V.
Fuel type: Petrol.
Fuel system: Individual Throttle Body Injection.
Power: 235 bhp.
0-60 mph: 6,1 secs.
Maximum speed: 154 mph (248 km/h).

2) BMW M3 E36 1992 - 1999. As with the first generation, the BMW M3 E36 was based upon the BMW E36 s series. It was a radical departure from the E30 though - the adoption of the inline 6 cylinder engine. The E36 M3 was also available as a Coupe or Sedan, and in LHD and RHD guise. Refinement levels were higher, power was up, but so was the weight. The handling, whilst good, was not as crisp or agile as the lighter E30 M3. It was available as the regular M3, with a 3,0 inline six, and an Evo version with a 3,2 version of the same engine.

Not as collectable as the E30 M3. Partly due to the fact externally, the E36 M3 didn't really differ from the regular E36 3 series. The only visible differences were the mirrors, front and rear bumpers and badges. The M3 bumpers were available as standard fitment on the E36 328i M-Tech Sport. A lot of owners of regular E36 3 series fitted M-Tech bumpers, replica M3 mirrors and badges, so it was virtually impossible to tell a fake from a real M3, unless you knew what you were looking for. The vehicle registration document would also tell if it was a real M3, or a tarted up E36 318i.

BMW E36 M3

2,979cc I6 DOHC 24V.
Fuel type: Petrol.
Fuel system: Individual Throttle Body Injection.
Power: 286 bhp.
0-60 mph: 5,4 secs.
Maximum speed: 155 mph (251 km/h).

BMW E36 M3 Evo

3,246cc I6 DOHC 24V.
Fuel type: Petrol.
Fuel system: Individual Throttle Body Injection.
Power: 321 bhp.
0-60 mph: 5,2 secs.
Maximum speed: 155 mph (251 km/h).

3) BMW M3 E46, 2001 - 2006. The E46 M3 marked BMW's return to bodywork that was unique to the M3. Whilst not as radical as the E30 M3, it was still unique enough in its own right, not to be mistaken for a regular E46 330Ci. Like the E30, it was only available as a Coupe or Convertible. Flared front and rear wheel arches, matching wider front and rear bumpers and different side skits were unmistakably M3. There were also subtle chrome horizontal grilles in the front wings. The rear also featured twin, polished exhaust tips. Like the E36, the mirrors were also unique to the E46 M3. The bonnet also had a bulge absent on regular E46 Coupe.

Like the E36 M3, power came courtesy of a highly tuned 3,2 I6 DOHC 24V, with BMW's trade mark individual throttle bodies. There was no Evo version, but a CSL version was available. It had only 17 bhp more power than the regular E46 M3, but the E46 M3 CSL was considerably quicker ( and more expensive). It was 110 kgs lighter than the regular E46 M3, due to the extensive use of carbon fibre in the bodywork. The rear screen was made of thinner glass, there was less sound proofing used, there was no air conditioning, stereo, navigation system and the front seats were manual. This resulted in a lot of excess weight being shed, and the suspension was tuned to match.

The ultimate E46 M3 was the E46 M3 GTR. This was powered by a 4,0 V8 2 x DOCH 32V. These are extremely rare, as it was a limited production run. The E46 M3 GTR made 500 bhp in stock trim.

BMW E46 M3

3,246cc I6 DOHC 24V.
Fuel type: Petrol.
Fuel system: Individual Throttle Body Injection.
Power: 338 bhp.
0-60 mph: 5,1 secs.
Maximum speed: 155 mph (251 km/h).

BMW E46 M3 CSL

3,246cc I6 DOHC 24V.
Fuel type: Petrol.
Fuel system: Individual Throttle Body Injection.
Power: 355 bhp.
0-60 mph: 4,9 secs.
Maximum speed: 155 mph (251 km/h).

BMW E46 M3 GTR

3,997cc V8 DOHC 32V.
Fuel type: Petrol.
Fuel system: Individual Throttle Body Injection.
Power: 500 bhp.
0-60 mph: -,- secs.
Maximum speed: 178 mph (288 km/h).

I stumbled upon a BMW M3 (06) model just past Ikeja Airport Hotel in October last year. And I wondered, on what roads would the owner always put the car to its paces ? (very limited )
Re: Are There Bmw M3's In Nigeria by yungboss(m): 9:13pm On Jan 01, 2012
@Lexusgs430,
i'm sure the guy will be frustrated to own that ride without having an opportunity to allow the camry v6s and honda cars to lick its dust (joking),

@siena,
The E46 is wicked! i'm gonna let u guys know when i get it, i really NEED to drive either of them especially the E36, atleast i'm close:

Re: Are There Bmw M3's In Nigeria by Nobody: 9:36pm On Jan 01, 2012
^^^ Yeah, the E36 M3's a great car. The only thing is, it never looked special enough, it was too similar to a regular E36 318Ci. A bit of a sleeper, for those that like to "blend" without drawing undue attention. But considering the price differential between an E36 M3 and an E36 318iS, it could have done with a very different look.

I've owned a 1990 BMW E30 M3 Convertible, and what a great car it was! It was truly built for the track, I wish I'd never sold her.

The E39 is the 5 series, so we're talking M5 there, not M3...

The E36 is the cheapest M3 you could buy, so luckily that's the one you like. You certainly won't find one round the corner in Nigeria, it'll have to be an import / pre-order. It's a pure enthusiast's dream.

My E30 M3 Convertible was awesome, though slower than the hard-top, due to the excess weight. The hard-top also handled better, due to the more rigid frame. The E30 M3 Convertible was pretty cool though, in my single days, it was a pure babe magnet, when I was cruising round with the top down, and my tunes blaring. cool

I was leaving for the United States, and wasn't returning to the United Kingdom anytime soon. Someone made me an offer I just couldn't refuse - £3,200 more than I paid for it. He was an Italian collector, and needed it for his private museum. It's currently in Sorrento, where he lives.

4) BMW M3 E90/92/93, 2007 - 2012. With the fourth generation M3, BMW went full circle, back to the E36. By this, the M3 was available as a Sedan, (E90) Coupe (E92) and Cabriolet (E93). And carrying on from the limited production run of the E46 M3 GTR, power came courtesy of a 4,0 V8 2 x DOHC 32V. This delivers 414 bhp at an unbelievable 8,300 rpm, very high for a V8. Like the E30 and E46 models, the E90/92/93 bodywork is unique to the M3's. The twin polished exhaust tips from the E46 was also carried over. The E92 M3 Coupe also has a carbon fibre roof as standard, just like the E46 M3 CSL.

No Evo models were produced, but the range-topper was the M3 GTS. Only available in the E92 Coupe, only 250 were built, and were snapped up. Most orders had been placed before the cars were even built. The E92 M3 GTS had a reworked 4,0 V8, it now had a capacity of 4,4 litres, and produced 444 bhp. It weighed 300 lbs less than the standard E92 M3 Coupe, due to weight saving initiatives.

The E90 M3 Saloon was available with the same 4,4 V8 2 x DOHC 32V engine as the E92 M3 Coupe, this was designated E90 M3 CRT (Carbon Racing Technology). Unlike the GTS, the E90 M3 CRT had all the creature comforts, though it was 100 lbs lighter than the standard E90 M3 Saloon, due to extensive use of carbon fibre as opposed to steel. Very limited production, just 67 were built, denoted by a unique numbered plaque on the dashboard.

BMW E90/92/93 M3

3,997cc V8 2 x DOHC 32V.
Fuel type: Petrol.
Fuel system: Individual Throttle Body Injection.
Power: 414 bhp.
0-60 mph: 4,7 secs.
Maximum speed: 155 mph (251 km/h).

BMW E92 M3 GTS

4,398cc V8 2 x DOHC 32V.
Fuel type: Petrol.
Fuel system: Individual Throttle Body Injection.
Power: 444 bhp.
0-60 mph: -,- secs.
Maximum speed: --- mph (--- km/h).

BMW E90 M3 CRT

4,398cc V8 2 x DOHC 32V.
Fuel type: Petrol.
Fuel system: Individual Throttle Body Injection.

If I had to pick a performance car, bar none it would be 1992, 1993 and 1994 Mercedes 500E/E500. Sent one back home last summer. Currently own a 2006 BMW M5, but it comes nothing close to the W124 E500 in handling but not performance.  Guess one funny thing, had a guy asked me in Abuja why am I still driving a V-boot? Lol!  I just laughed at him. I told him, go research about the Immortal Mercedes W124 500E/E500. The only car ever " hand-built" in automobile history, a joint venture of Porsche and Mercedes. In other words, Porsche built the engine and Mercedes built the body.  This car is almost 20 yrs old but still worth over $20,000 today. Please this is not V-boot.

My advice to you, if you lay your hands on one of these with low mileage, keep it.  One with 20,000 miles was sold on ebay for almost $55,000.  Performance  cars are also a good business to do if you live in the U.S. Wealthy americans scramble for them like its gold. Also a good way to invest your money since they don't depreciate in value like most cars but rather worth more as days go by.

Sorry I have to bug your guys with this, can't help it.  Just a sucker for performance cars.
