Good News - Now We Can Bring In Diesel Cars by KnowAll(m): 10:28am On Jan 04, 2012 |
With this subsidy removal, Nigerians would soon know the benefit of Diesel Cars, the price of Diesel and Petrol are almost the same now, and a N1,000 Naira Petrol would probably burn faster than a N1,000 Diesel. The Diesel would give you more miles per gallon than the average Petrol Car, and more miles per gallon means more value for your money. So if you are doing so many miles or km a day, changing your car from Petrol to Diesel might be one of the options you should be looking at in 2012. Diesel is already ruling the roost in Europe, where every car maker or manufacturers all now have a Diesel variant and the new Diesel engines are nothing like those old ones that make so much noise like cartepiller, today they are super turbo charged Diesels that would give those of you who are speed freaks a run for your money. So it is not all doom and gloom when it comes to Oil Subsidy deregulation, some benefits would surely out of it and come your way. At the moment in Naija, Diesel cars are relatively still cheap due to the previous in-balance at the pumps between the price of Diesel and Petrol but all that is about to change soon, so get on the bandwagon and be amongst the first few who would buy whilst still cheap, GET YOUR Diesel CAR TODAY. NB The poster can supply all your diesel car needs if required. E-mail your car needs to aolugbeniga@yahoo.com- Cheers |

not just bring in diesel cars but as well as the competence to maintain it. |

not just bring in diesel cars but as well as the competence to maintain it True to that, I know diesel cars need more servicing time than petrol cars. A Petrol Car can go 12,000 miles without servicing, but diesel cars have to be service every 6,000 0r 7,000 miles, to keep it in top form. But then labour is cheap in Naija, your mechanic can wash your plugs with petrol and you can re-use them, same can be done with oil filter and other parts. In Naija we have our ways, we can always adapt to our own needs, we cannot follow oyinbo like mumu servicing every 6,000 miles. I still think on the long run these modern diesel engines are as good as any petrol engine out there and the owners of Diesel Cars would be saving loads of money by switching over. |

I started a thread a year ago, with a comparison between petrol and diesel engine in Nigeria, and what the preference was: https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-617749.0.html The idea of running diesel-engine vehicles was met with all manner of negatives - noise, cost, performance, maintenance etc. I did state then, if you covered at least 12,000 miles a year, you'd be saving a lot of money on running costs with a diesel, despite the much greater cost of the fuel itself. Now with the gap between the cost of petrol and diesel in Nigeria getting smaller, it makes perfect sense to run a diesel over petrol. KnowAll: I agree with you on the idea of running a diesel engine over a petrol one, but I don't agree with you on your maintenance. Contrary to popular belief, plugs do not get dirty. The spark actually cleans the tip. The tip will only get fouled if the engine is burning oil, due to worn piston rings. As plugs age, the spark gap gets bigger. Once the gap becomes too large, engine misfiring starts, difficulty in starting becomes an issue, and at high rpm, engine compression blows the spark out, so under load, the engine will be reluctant to rev. The ignition coil/s will eventually burn out. There's nothing "mumu" about looking after your engine properly. This sort of maintenance is one of the reasons a perfectly good car will become a liability once it gets to Nigeria. As for replacing plugs every 6,000 miles, that's not true. Sure, some petrol engines may require servicing every 12,000 miles, the plugs don't require replacement at the same time. Regular plugs are replaced every other service, while longlife plugs (usually platinum tipped ones) will last over 20,000 miles. This is why manufacturers now have three service types: 1) Lube service: Oil and oil filter are replaced, all levels are checked and topped up as required. 2) Minor service: Oil and oil filter are replaced, air and pollen filters replaced, diesel filter drained, front brake pads and discs checked, all levels are checked and topped up as required. 3) Major service: Oil and oil filter are replaced, air, pollen, petrol / diesel filters replaced, front and rear brake check, spark plugs replaced, all levels are checked and topped up as required. Additional work which does not fall under any service schedule, classed as "additions" are as follows: 1) Timing belt and tensioner / rollers replaced. 2) Brake pads changed. 3) brake fluid changed. 4) Glow plugs changed. Washing of spark plugs with petrol actually shortens their life, and is a bad practice. The same goes for those that was oil filters with petrol and reuse them. Petrol breaks down oil, and should NEVER be used as a washing agent in any part of the lubrication system. Once oil viscosity is lost, the engine will wear out at a rapid rate. |

@Siena, Thanks for that professional and holistic view, overall Nigerians should start casting an eye at diesel engine cars because they are more than the future. Do you know that a full tank of BMW 320 Diesel would give you close to 600 miles or 750 km(my boss use to use of those) that is like going from Lagos to Ibadan almost 5.5 times without buying fuel, whao that is something. So guys make una know waste time oh!! I can supply all your Peugeot 407, 406, 307, 308 Diesel at very competetive price. 1 Like |

^^^ Diesels are brilliant. We used to own a 2006 Renault Clio 1,5 DCi 106 (well, it belonged to my ex). We drove on the Continent on a regular basis, I did a best of 804 miles to a full tank, driving through France, Germany and Spain. |

Diesel mechanic are hard to come by in Naija, Had issues with my Diesel Mitsubishi L200 some years back due to mechanic palava. Nigerian Mechanics would adapt fast if it becomes the trend. There is no fundermental difference betweeen Diesel and Petrol engines other than fuel types. If you are good at one, you can always learn the intricacies of the other without much ado. Gone are the days when u cannot start a diesel engine on a cold start almost immedietely, now you can start them without waiting for 10 or 20 seconds after putting-in the ignition key. @Seina, yeah Renault CLio 1.5 DCI are really good, I currently drive one to work covering 50 miles a day. The car is basically for work, I don't use it for any other thing. |

ayusman16: Then join automobile fora that deal with your particular model. Most girls in the West that have no technical inclination learn a lot from these discussion boards, and the average lady can service her own car, and replace front brake pads. There's a wealth of very useful technical data and information, that can be gleaned from interraction online, more than the average Nigerian roadside mechanic has learned in his lifetime, doing the same things repeatedly, never moving onto newer systems, refusing to embrace positive change. Why would anyone place 100% reliance on a tech to keep their vehicle running, when most basic repairs and maintenance can be done at home, using common tools? |

Diesel engines are well built, and service intervals surpasses that of petrol engine. Diesel has been a better choice, but for availability of the mechanics and most of all doing it well also as rgds the fuel hike in Naija, if transporters are really sincere, this should really not affect the prices of basic food stuffs like meat, yam, rice, etcs, cos these are all transported by diesel powered engines. MTN or DSThieVes shouldnt latch on these to give reasons for incremement, |

Nice thread and very informative . . . But just like the Eco vehicles, buying a diesel ride is a little more expensive in the western world and that is for the fact simple economics of Demand and Supply . . . But like Sienna have said Nigerians will get more for their money if the run machines with Diesel but my fear is in a Nation where they dont really know the meaning of "Fix it while it is running" against their belief of "If it aint broken, why fix it" . . . such attitude will leave Nigeria with so much dead rides on the roads and so much smokey machines on wheels. But if maintenance could be done routinely, it will be great idea. Again, in newer rides not much diesel at all. 1 Like |
