Ade Shinaba, the local police commissioner, said the attackers also carried knives and machetes. No arrests have been made in that attack, in which at least 15 other people were wounded.

Boko Haram claimed responsibility for the attack in Mubi, local media reported.

The government put into effect a 24-hour curfew in Adamawa state on Saturday afternoon.

Residents have been ordered to stay indoors, and military personnel are deployed on the streets to enforce the curfew.

God gave every person a brain to use and eyes to see. If you cannot see and learn the deeper things around you, then you will become your own victim.
Boko haram is a weapon against GEJ and against you. If you blame GEJ, instead of supporting the fight, then you risk becoming a person who backstabs their friends to a common enemy.

Be wise. cool

Add two and two, the attacks occured in Adamawa, close the the Cameroonian border and the former border areas with Cameroon in Borno have been closed with the state of emergency there. Study the map. Boko haram is clearly coming through the mountains between Cameroon and Nigeria:

I believe that they do have bases in Yobe and Borno, but most of them must be coming across the border to hit Nigeria and withdraw back to Cameroon. That could be why it is difficult to get a hold on them.

We basically need to start thinking about invading Cameroon to destroy them.

Target Cameroon?!

Beaf are you out of your mind?

Nigeria can't afford to fight any war right now. Even war with Sao Tome & Principe.

Nigeria's military is weak.

Mind you that that war is not a bravado show of shooting at unarmed citizens.

Or shooting at demoralized and unequipped Biafran troops.

Nigeria will go bankrupt in that misadventure; and they will lose.

In the end, there wont be any money to pay the troops that will maintain the internal cohesion, resulting in the fragmentation of the union.

First time am agreeing with you. After the military destroyed their base in yobe, pots of their members relocated to Gombe, Jigawa , Yola(Mubi which is a border town). . .remember the guy that spoke with OBJ saidmost of their members are outside the country. I.e chad, Niger etc.

Hence, the recent upsurge in areas with little or no records of attacks. I believe a trans border activities must be checked.

Boko harams days are numbered. I did some quick googling and came up with this article that backs up my statements about Cameroon.

Boko Haram Hideout Uncovered in Northern Cameroon!
Wednesday, January 04, 2012
By Divine Ntaryike Jr
On New Year’s Eve, the Nigerian government temporarily shut down its land boundaries with Cameroon, Chad and Niger as a means of impeding crossborder activities by militants of the radical Islamic terrorist group, the Boko Haram.

And while the impacts of that decision are only beginning to be felt in Cameroon’s predominantly Muslim northern regions, with reports of rising fuel prices and stranded traders, authorities there are almost certain they have blown the cover on a Boko Haram refuge.

Reports indicate that members of the extremist group are increasingly present in Lagdo, a cosmopolitan settlement in the North Region, following calls for vigilance by local administrative authorities in the regional headquarters Garoua.

“They are easily identifiable with their bizarre dressing.  They wear long beards and red or black headscarves,” Peter Kum, a reporter with the French language daily, La Nouvelle Expression reported Tuesday, January 3.  According to him, since several months Lagdo locals have testified that the strangers are combing surrounding villages and actively preaching anti-Western sermons, establishing units and proposing huge amounts of money to those willing to follow them.

Presiding at a December 15 security coordination conclave devoted to maintaining peace and order before, during and after the 2011 end-of-year festive period, the Governor of the North Region, El HadjGambo Haman did not mince words.  He instructed security forces to be on the alert, noting the increasing influx and presence of Boko Haram militants in parts of the region.

“The Boko Haram being chased from Nigeria’s northeast, as well as thousands of runaway Chadian soldiers in irregular situation here must be closely monitored to avoid unwanted trouble throughout the national territory,” he warned.  Separate sources suspect that the presence of the extremist Boko Haram militants has soared steadily following increasing clampdowns on them by the Nigerian government especially following the Christmas Day blasts that left close to fifty dead.

Security sources and administrative officials in the North Region, speaking on condition of anonymity, say for the time being, there is no need to panic.  They are claiming that intensified intelligence monitoring implies the activities of the terrorists are under control.  “We cannot begin to arrest suspects because the law does not allow for that.  At the moment, they are not breaking the law,” one said.

Following the fatal Christmas Day attacks in Nigeria claimed by the group, authorities in Cameroon’s Far North Region, which also shares porous borders with Nigeria, have also reinforced surveillance.  Several Quran learning centers have been reportedly shut down, while Islam teachers are being closely watched by intelligence operatives.  Many of them are grumbling following several interrogations they have been put through.

Invading cameroon may destabilize west africa if care is not taken.

I think the cameroon govt should handle this matter and flush out any cross border terrorists in their midst.

They (cameroon govt) should remember these terrorists will also foment unrest in cameroon itself, although i understand the govt may even want them to do that in order to wipe them out.

Boko Haram Clampdown: Nigeria Shuts Borders With Cameroon
Sunday, January 01, 2012

By Divine Ntaryike Jr

Nigeria has temporarily shut down its borders with Cameroon, Chad and Niger in a flaring offensive against the radical Islamic militant group, the Boko Haram.

President Goodluck Jonathan said in a televised nationwide broadcast on December 31 that the land boundary closure is intended to check presumed cross border activities by members of the sect. He also decreed a state of emergency in 15 local government areas in the Borno, Plateau, Niger and Yobe states.

President Jonathan did not divulge how long the measures will last. “The temporary closure of our borders in the affected areas is only an interim measure designed to address the current security challenges and will be reviewed as soon as normalcy is restored.

I therefore urge the political leadership in the affected states and local government areas to give maximum cooperation to the law enforcement agencies deployed to their respective communities to ensure that the situation is brought under control within the shortest possible time,” he said.

He has also ordered the establishment of a special unit within the Nigerian Armed Forces tasked with combating the terrorists.  Security forces have been conferred additional prerogatives to arrest and detain suspects as well as conduct stop-and-search operations in the concerned areas.

The Boko Haram has been blamed by Nigerian authorities for a Christmas Day bloodbath in Nigeria in which close to 50 people perished.  The group has claimed responsibility or been imputed blame for a spate of savage terror attacks across Nigeria in recent months.  Essentially, it has targeted and killed Christians, police, politicians, local government officials as well as blown up churches and government institutions.

In August last year, a Muslim religious leader in Cameroon’s largest city Douala warned the increasing clampdowns on Boko Haram militants in Nigeria was compelling them to seek refuge in Cameroon.  Sheikh Ibrahim Mbombo Mubarak said Cameroon no longer served only as a sanctuary for fugitives of the terrorist movement, but was fast becoming a station for recruiting converts.

The administration has been served several indices confirming that these people are in Cameroon and are even propagating their doctrine in various chapels and mosques.  There are other indicators like CDs with their doctrines being distributed across the country,” the cleric reiterated on January 1.

According to him, the Boko Haram fugitives initially sought refuge in Cameroon’s predominantly Muslim northern regions.  He says they have steadily infiltrated other Muslim communities elsewhere like in Douala and are even sheltered naively or knowingly by extremist community leaders and organizations.

“The No. 2 and No. 3 strongmen of the sect [Mohammad Nour and Mohammed Kahirou] are from Cameroon and precisely, are people who actually grew up in Douala.  We are investigating reports they have been spotted here after they were chased from Nigeria,” Sheikh Mubarak noted. Meantime, the Conference of Imams of Cameroon indicated in the course of 2011 it had alerted the government on looming threats to public peace and order posed by the swelling influx recruitment of Boko Haram militants in the country.

On November 28, the government appeared to have heeded the warnings.  The prefect of Douala, Bernard Okalia Bilai convened Imams and Muslim community leaders in the city and tasked them with elaborating a blueprint to fend off the installation of the sect.

“We have been informed of attempts of Boko Haram infiltration.  Their doctrine is anti-social as it condemns western education.  It’s a doctrine that persuades young graduates to rip their degrees because it’s satanic.  It’s a doctrine that condemns what today constitutes the values of our society and top authorities of the country don’t accept that such hateful dogma is established in our communities, and thus the necessity of this meeting.  We must be vigilant,” he warned.

On December 26, Chadian President Idriss Itno Deby paid a daylong working trip to Cameroon.  Terrorist threats featured on the deliberations agenda with his host, Paul Biya.  “We must remain very vigilant to the consequences of the upheavals that have occurred in the north of our continent.  It is of no interest to anyone that a zone of instability emerges close to our northern borders.  In that light, our solidarity is of utmost importance,” Biya told his guest.

Taking turns, President Deby requested the holding of a Cross-Border Security Mixed Commission session soon to outline ways of dealing with increasing Boko Haram and AQMI (the Maghreb branch of al-Qaeda) threats.

Both countries are yet to formally react to the border closure by Nigeria.

Sheikh Mubarak says without prompt action, the Boko Haram exportation from its birthplace in Nigeria to neighboring countries will continue.  He has recommended that governments in concerned countries streamline the activities of Muslim communities by shutting down unauthorized mosques, ban the face veil [or niqab], ensure that only accredited clerics preach in mosques and above all, join forces against the terrorists.

He says Cameroon remains a favorable destination for the Boko Haram sect members, owing to gross laxity regarding freedom of worship and Islamic doctrinal disputes.  He nonetheless adds that Cameroon’s over 250 ethnic groupings as well as cohabitation between Christians and Muslims [even the predominant Muslim north] has contributed in hindering overt outings by the sect members.

Reports from Cameroon’s northern regions which share porous borders with Nigeria’s Borno state mention increased monitoring of Quran instruction centers by government intelligence operatives.  Sheikh Ismael, a Quran teacher in Marouatold the French-language daily, Le Jour last week that following the Christmas Day attacks in Nigeria, the authorities have sealed over a dozen Quran teaching centers and intensified surveillance of the activities of Muslim leaders.  He says he has been grilled countless times over the contents of his lessons.

Meantime in Douala, some Muslim leaders argue that some clerics may be using the Boko Haram infiltration hypothesis as a score-settling weapon and a means of capturing government esteem.  The subject easily triggers fiery debate and division among Muslims in the city.
