The Federal Government on Wednesday vowed to press ahead with its controversial deregulation policy, saying it would not revert the pump price of fuel from N141 to N65.

The House of Representatives has, however, repeated its demand for the government to restore subsidy on fuel.

Addressing State House reporters at the end of the Federal Executive Council meeting at the Council Chambers of the State House, Abuja, the Minister of Information, Mr. Labaran Maku, accused Labour leaders of creating more pains for Nigerians with the ongoing general strike, mass rallies and public protests over the Federal Government’s removal of fuel subsidy.

He said President Goodluck Jonathan deserved to be praised rather than vilified for removing fuel subsidy.

“Deregulation is not an option arrived at in comfort or happiness. It was reviewed over a year. If Nigerians don’t want us to cripple the future of our children, deregulation is important and must stay.

“If we want the President to succeed, I believe he should be praised for taking this decision rather than being crucified,” Maku said.

The minister said although negotiations were ongoing between government and Labour, there was not going back on deregulation.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the House Committee on Labour, Mr. Essien Ekpenyong-Ayi, said in Abuja that it was in the interest of peace for goverment to restore the subsidy.

The government’s hard stance may push the situation out of control, as labour and civil rights groups have threatened to take tougher steps to force the return of subsidy.

The Senate and the House of Representatives had at separate sittings in the past few days advised Jonathan to revert to N65 until the conclusion of negotiations with various stakeholders.

I do not support either subsidy removal or non subsidy removal but I believe Government should be able to listen to the masses , it is mandatory to turn his deaf here to the millions  crying out there if he doesn't want his days number like Gaddafi, if they want to suffer , let them suffer. majority routes count most and if it think the MEND can defend him, it is far far far fowl

The words Federal Government should immediately change to Goodluck Jonathan  because nothing federal anymore, it is an individual acting on his own, stop mentioning federal, it is all about Jonathan and his people now

Jonathan has apparently boxed himself into a corner. He hastily implemented the subsidy removal policy in order to prove that he is not as weak as he is constantly portrayed in the media. Now seeing that the house is on fire, he is aghast but realises that rescinding the decision would make him look even weaker and stupider than ever. I'm afraid it's now an ego thing for the man and his confused government. It might take an attempt on his life, or a coup plot/attempt to jolt him out of his deep egotistical trance.

I think that in a bid to make Nigeria better he has made it worse because he took a substantial part of what is in the country and turned it overnight without putting real solutions in it's place 1600 buses won't help the whole of Nigeria and they shou,d stop saying je donated the buses because he used the people's money to buy it also he never did anything to gain the people's trust for them to believe he is helping them if he maybe constructed a few roads before doing this maybe people would believe he was reLly out to help. Lastly a government who hurts his people is not a good government so he is wrong nd should revert the rice back and find other ways because there are ways to do this without removing fuel subsidy he needs to sit down and think.

GEJ should re-think again, if over 150 million Nigerians are threatening a stand off, no president can remain glued to his horse!! Someone should please relay this to him.

I use to belief in protest, riot & violence before but as i choose to know God more. God actually want us to be good most especially in decision making over our country. Since it has become this now that police has started killing us please let rely on God alone has our way forward, don't let us put decisions on my pam. Nigeria is not ruled by God but those capitalist & socialist outside the world, they decide what we do in our country; our economy is in their hand.
Nigerian this is the time to pray & fast together and lives everything in the hands of God almighty. The revelation I receive is that God has intervene already as you can see the capitalist and socialist power & economy are already entering pit of no return. Once this entire imperialist die forever & ever then we shall be able to control our economy by ourselves. Our government is scare of this people seated upon this country they remote our economy from outside world. Belief me God has intervene and the wicked capitalist & socialist power & economy shall die forever. Let pray let cry let fast so that God shall put is work to finish. Don’t oppose the government but rely on God for total interventions & do not stop God intervene by putting laws into your hand. Romance {13:1} Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are
ordained of God. {13:2} Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation. {13:3} For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same.

Nigeria government said they cannot longer pay subsidy and they intend to pass the payment to the general public by increase the fuel to 140N. America they copied pay the following subsidy Fuel, medical, Agriculture, transport, Electricity and fresh graduate. The only subsidy Nigeria govenmt pay is what they intend to remove and want the general public to pay from there pocket what a wicked & Ant-Christ Governement, There salaries & alawances carry heavy duty subsidy 25M per month but they cannot subsidize 76N per Nigerians.

This  cretin of a President is going the way of Laurent Gbagbo.  It is only a matter of time before the cretin is kicked out of office.   I used to think he was slow in making decisions but I have now realised that he is actually slow thinking and silly, and has very poor political judgment.
