BREAKING NEWS: FG, Labour Move Towards Compromise
12 Jan 2012

The ice has finally been broken between labour unions and the Federal Government over the removal of fuel subsidy with a meeting scheduled for this evening, THISDAY can report.

Ahead of the tripartriate negotiation in Abuja involving the Executive, National Assembly leadership and the unions, the Jonathan Administration is considering a mechanism aimed at subsidising aspects of petrol pricing and bringing down the cost to around N120 per litre or up to 20% subsidy in the interim.

Labour is also said to be willing to propose a shift in the commencement date of the deregulation policy from April to March subject to agreement and milestones. They are said to be disposed to phased deregulation.

These three items form the agenda for the meeting for this evening.

THISDAY will keep you posted. Watch this space,

If the above turns out true, what would people have achieved with all the violence and deaths?
Labour should have negotiated first, and done it with a national strike, not demonstrations.

^^^^^

E no go better for u

Did NLC kill the guy in Ilorin or the guy in Ogba where there is documented photo evidence that showed that Ademola posed no threat to the Animals-in-human-skin before he was summarily executed?

Your C in C of such a police force can ot be trusted.

whatever the outcome, I pray God keeps us alive to see if Nigeria will be any better than it is today despite the claim of massive infrastructural development that is being promised by the Badluck administration

Re: FG, Labour Move Towards Compromise by BigB11(m): 7:31pm On Jan 12, 2012
What is on ground is more than just fuel subsidy.
Nigerians must continue with the protest until all governors on bail for the past 4 years are brought back to the court of law, the salaries of the top government officials are revised, government spending in general is reduced drastically and president Jonathan steps aside and allow a real leader, a competent leader, a focused leader and a real man to take control of this country from here,
Anything else will be business as usual and a wasted effort.
Re: FG, Labour Move Towards Compromise by manny4life(m): 7:34pm On Jan 12, 2012
So that means they are only subsiding N15?  cry cry cry

Why the whole protest? I just don't get it? Didn't people let NLC/TUC that they said "if it ain't N65, NO DEAL"? Anyway, that's somewhat moving forward, let Nigeria march forward, we have security challenges to tackle ahead of us. I hope NLC/TUC dialogued on NASS and government pay. I hope they also talked about corruption because if they hadn't, that will be a slap on the face.

it is your dunce in chief who ( by the admission of the article you spammed the board with)  that broke his promise and arbitrarily knocked off the fuel subsidy AHEAD  of the implementation of the 2012 budget

https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria?topic=843471.msg9939729#msg9939729

An authoritative source told The Moment in an exclusive interview last night that the president broke his promise so as to pre-empt the National Assembly from forcing his hand to retain the subsidy in the 2012 budget after excluding it from the Appropriation Bill.

this is all on him. the idiot who deliberately and callously hit nigerians with a new year gift of n141/litre of petrol, at the worst time  possible, a time when people all over th world are broke, the turn o the new year

the likes of you proably told him this was the best time, as people would not have the reserves for a drawn out strike

the deaths of people are on the heads of your trigger happy policemen, the same cowards who cannot stop boko haram but have no problem killing hapless civilians

anyway, the honeymoon is over. nigerians see gej for what he is - a gutles callous coward whose hands are always tieed when it is tiime to face boko haram, corruption, cabals or bloated government , but who will leap into action when it is time to fk the masses who were fooled into gej not pdp

Guys, instead of wasting your time on this dude (beaf), why not just let him be whatever he wants, while you stay focus on watching the outcome of the protest.
This is just the beginning. Nigerians are getting smarter by every second. A baby must craw before he or she walks. What is on ground is way too big and serious to come over here to entertain this dolt.
Re: FG, Labour Move Towards Compromise by klarry79: 7:48pm On Jan 12, 2012
I hope nlc/ tuc do not compromise. period!
FG must revert to N65 now and carry out a proper deregulation program with PIB passed, Industry regulatory agency set up (just like ncc was done for telecoms) and break the monopoly of corrupt nnpc and let nnpc operate like a proper oil and gas company.
FG must deal with its internal corruption, bloated size, reckless spending etc.

What a joker! Not everyone is myopic, this pic was taken in public in Warri, many people can actually reason and see the benefits of the removal and are not driven by bigotted reasons to "protest":
