WHY LABOUR MUST INSIST ON N65
Nigerian masses started this protest, labour only provided the platform
Nigerian masses’ position is clear…N65 per litre, No to subsidy removal
Anything apart from N65 has not addressed government reasons or leakages for wanting to take the subsidy away in the first place.
There should be a roundtable discussion on subsidy between the government and masses representatives made of labour, TUC AND Civil Society leaders. Nigerian masses are not opposed to discussion on why it should be removed. The economic argument on fuel subsidy removal is understood and persuasive. Notwithstanding, the following have to be addressed at the roundtable before looking at the argument of fuel subsidy:
Government corruption has already impoverished the masses
Government corruption has eroded public trust
Government cost of governance is scandalous from the federal to local government and is not supporting government argument on fuel subsidy.
NNPC subsidy claim is unfounded, fraudulent and should be seriously investigated….it is a monumental fraud and a disgrace to our nationhood.
Government officials staggering disregard to due process is alarming as evident in NNPC dealing with payment of subsidy and award of oil allocation.
The truth remains that if Government decides to tackle corruption today, 80% of our problem can be dealt with.
Infrastructure is bad
Power provision is low
Drinking water provision has long been neglected
State of insecurity is alarming.
The argument that until subsidy is removed, social amenities/services cannot be provided is flawed and untenable. In the first place, for more than 50 years of our independence we should have gone beyond these issues of infrastructure, power and security (needless to say to that it  is the basic reason why people are opposed to this subsidy removal), considering how blessed we are with natural resources.
Seriously, government has no moral justification for  saying they cannot provide social amenities until subsidy is dumped on the masses considering the number and amount of corruption cases we have had in the past, which involved huge amount of money. This should have been used to solve the issues of infrastructure, power and security.
I  dare to say this without mincing words that if each of our past presidents, from the time of IBB to the  present president Goodluck Jonathan , if well probed can provide the sum we need for these infrastructure, power and security problems. But it is sad to hear that all these people are also cabals to our government and very well untouchable. Our government is weak to these cabals but very strong to the weak masses. We need a government that can tackle corruption.
Government should revert back to N65 per litre and no more. After we have had serious commitments with government in the areas of tackling corruption, infrastructure, power and security, we can then look at subsidy removal issues.

ndu_chucks:

Anything short of reverting back to N65/liter and taking concrete steps towards eliminating corruption in a manner which will enable the government to raise the said N1.3trillion through associated savings while leaving the masses out of the mess should be unacceptable

At the is point in time, the NLC's interests may not be the same as those of the Nigerian people. If the NLC sells out the Nigerian people in the ongoing negotiations, I'm afraid both the government and the NLC will see the wrath of the Nigerian people.

^^ Mba an-abara agu.  I would want to see what you will do when your wish is not done. We want good roads, we want best infrastructure,we want this, we want that, yet we don't want sacrifice. In short,All  we want is to close our eyes and before we open them, our  dear country has transformed from its current state to the present state of advanced economy. By how now? By miracle?

The earlier we begin to understand that we can not get a different result from doing the same thing, the better for us. Again, the transformation of Nigeria, requires collective sacrifice and  practical commitment of each and everyone of us.

READ BETWWEN LINES

NLC SUSPENDS PROTESTS NOT STRIKE. THERE IS DIFFERENT BETWEEN STRIKE AND PROTEST AS YOU CAN GO ON STRIKE WITHOUT PROTEST.

Nlc should not make us feel as if Nigeria is meant for the rich and influencial even if it is. People that meet the need of the family with daily earned money are realy suffering the strick action because it is very obvious that you are not in any way loosing anything but dont let our sacrifice be in vain.
Re: Fuel Subsidy: NLC Suspends Strike For The Weekend by Marlboro1: 1:58pm On Jan 13, 2012
All of you N65 per liter or nothing people, wake up from your dream. Never going to happen. Labour leaders already told you they have yielded some grounds in exchange for govt doing the same. Tomorrow you will hear the final resolution is somewhere between N90 - N110 with certain incentives from govt  to the people.  And the cabals will rejoice and "POP POP  POP something."  Welcome back business as usual.

Y do we like decieving ourslvs even when we know d truth? V gvmt ever reverted to d old pump price of petrol after increasing it? Nlc will always accept a new pump price after d initial gra gra, that has always bin d trend and this one wnt be dfrnt. The strike is tactically over cos by 2mrw gvmt and labour will do what they knw how 2do best which is to fix a new pump price for petrol and on sunday, labour will officially call of d strike bringing d movie to a climax whl we await d release of another movie by labour and d fg in the nearest future. As usual, d masses v bin used again cos we r all are suffering from collective amnasia. We always 4get d past in a hurry and end up repeating d same thing over and over. We r so predictable as a people. Reverting bck to #65/ltr was nothing but fantacies and d gvmt knew dat right from unset. The revolt that will liberate this nation wnt be d one organised and lead by labour and d so called cso's but by d masses themselves. Whn i saw d likes of fani kayode and d dino melaye's and el rufai making public coments and nigerians applauding them, then i knew that d devil himslf will be celebrated here and his past deeds 4gotten in a hurry in as much he tells us thing we love to hear even though he is a founding father of the corrupt system. We as a people v a long way to go, our psycology has been badly distorted.

The whole purpose of calling for national strikes was so that labor union leaders could attain eligibility to collect massive cash bribes from the federal government.

That very personal objective has now been achieved, and so it would be unrealistic to expect strikes to continue, since that would be in open contempt of the "gentleman's agreement" that now ties the hands of those newly enriched labor leaders, many of who will now be in the process of scheduling hasty trips out of Nigeria, for the inevitable shopping trips, and to establish "safe havens"  suitable for stashing the cash leftovers.

Thank you Jeeeesus !  At least the families of those  HEROES who were cut down during Nigeria's recent staged mayhem can rest assured that their reward will be in heaven, unlike the labor leaders who collected their own rewards from the Nigerian federal government yesterday.

The strike is on, but street and public protests rally are suspended for the 2 days. If no truce reached by end of weekend, the strike continues next week Monday.

Protest was called off and not the strike.
If the Strike later ends. i pitty many of you saying NLC is not the people. if you love your life after the end of the strike don't go back then the Nigerian Police will show you how they can be your friend.
