Hello honourable members of the house, I am starting this thread to document activities involved in the erection of fence. Which my new client has contracted me to start. This fence will stand on 60x100 foot land and will have one gate. We are going to start building the duplex that will be in this compound later this first quarter of 2012. We plan to finish this fence within the week/weekend. Digging starts by tomorow morning and we plan to complete all digging by tomorrow. All pictures will be pasted here live as we go along. More on this later today.

Spyder, the rate at which yhu open new threads as well as the way Spyder like threads spring up have necessitated the need for a child board to accommodate threads of this nature. Please yhu and other well meaning fans of the NL property section @Phemmy, @rastaman @am alone, @victorazy and so forth should help appeal to the mod to create a child board for threads such as this. Sorry for derailing. Nice work boss. God is yhur muscle.

Of course you are making a valid point, I wish the MOD will listen. This work should have been done on my 'fence and gates in pictures and prices' thread but I find it difficult locating the thread from the bulk section. Again, I wish the moderator will help us out here.

^^^ Oga Rastaman, how far sir, this fence will be up to 11 coaches of blocks above the ground. We intend to use 6" hollow blocks, although the landlord will call me later this morning to leave the final instructions, he was talking about using 6" solid blocks yesterday.
Re: Fence Building Section by blank(f): 10:28am On Jan 17, 2012
What are the advantages and disadvantages of using hollow or solid blocks for the fence?
Re: Fence Building Section by spyder880(m): 10:59am On Jan 17, 2012
Unlike the house where the roof shields the walls from rain and shine, the fence is always outside. This will expose the blocks used to do the fence to weather fluctuations, plus other physical occurence like thieves punctuing the fence or the occupants of the compound accidentally ramming into the fence with vehicles. Many people use hollow blocks to do their fences, and I see nothing wrong with this, but it should be covered with concrete capping to make it last longer.

We should also remember the price variance between the solid and hollow blocks. As at this morning, the place we want to lift blocks from are willing to sell thus;

6" hollow. N85
6" solid. N120
9" hollow. N115

It takes more material to make 6" solid blocks than making 9" hollow blocks.

Oga Spyder
I sent u a mail yesterday as per advice
Am still expecting ur reply
Thanks
Re: Fence Building Section by blank(f): 1:37pm On Jan 17, 2012
So the difference is about cost?

What will make someone go for the 6 inches solid block rather than the 9 inches hollow block?
Will the solid block also need the concrete capping?
