lol, using archimedes principle of displacement, which states that 'any floating object displaces its own weight of fluid' you calculate the weight of real gold of the same volume with the crown, then immerse the crown in the bowl, it should be able to displace the same volume of water calculated. If less then sauer should be searched thoroughly cheesy
phoneflasher, your answer is not totally correct. You using the right principle, but not the right explanation! Where do you get "real gold of the same volume with the crown"? how do you get "real gold of the same volume with the crown"?
Note: the cost of making another crown out of complete gold is very high, so that's not to be considered.
Plus, the crown is not going to float? so, where did you get "any floating object displaces its own weight of fluid"?
I'm not satisfied with the answer! It's not thorough and not detailed. So, before you search me, search yourself first! undecided

A rich merchant had collected many gold coins. He did not want anybody to know about them. One day, his wife asked, "How many gold coins do we have?"
After pausing a moment, he replied, "Well! If I divide the coins into two unequal numbers, then 69 times the difference between the two numbers equals the difference between the squares of the two numbers."
The wife looked puzzled. Can you help the merchant's wife by finding out how many gold coins they have?

i know its not going to float, i just quoted the principle, the main is that its gonna displace its own weight of fluid.

ok make i tell you how archimedes take do im own, so you go do am like that. . . .
put a weight of gold equal to that of the crown, and known to be pure, into the bowl of water which will be filled with water to the brim. Then the gold would be removed and the golden crown put in, in its place. An alloy of lighter bronze would increase the bulk of the crown and cause the bowl to overflow.

69(x-y)=x^2-y^2

=(x+y)(x-y)

therefore cancelling (x-y)

x+ y= 69

therefore he has 69 gold coins.

Total effort required by 8 bricklayers for 17 days =8 × 17 = 136 man-days.

Initial effort by 8 bricklayers for 5 days = 8 × 5 = 40 man-days.

Job still requires 136 − 40 = 96 man-days, and there are 24 bricklayers available to do it.

Additional effort required by 24 bricklayers for 96 man-days = 96 / 24 = 4 days.

Thus, 4 more days are required to complete the bricklaying job.

as smart as you appear to be, you still have this totally wrong! I told ya, there is no available "weight of gold equal to the crown". The crown is shapeless. HOw do you expect the investigator to find gold of same volume!?

You attended a chess tournament and saw varying chess boards between every two incredibly attentive players. So, you were thinking. . . hmmm, if i had a 7 × 7 checkered square board (i.e., a 7 × 7 chess board), how many rectangles would there be in total? Note: a square is also a special type of rectangle, so you want to count the square too!

A large water tank has two inlet pipes (a large one and a small one) and one outlet pipe. It takes 2 hours to fill the tank with the large inlet pipe. On the other hand, it takes 6 hours to fill the tank with the small inlet pipe. The outlet pipe allows the full tank to be emptied in 8 hours.
What fraction of the tank (initially half-full) will be filled in 0.46 hours if all three pipes are in operation?
