One major problem is glut, but aside still profitable. One acre of farmland, we have 20000 heaps and a bundle of cassava sticks containing 40 sticks is sold at N350 depending on the location.

Lease a hectare of land in Ogun state for N5k yearly.
Plant high yield cassava obtainable from IITA
Planting to Harvest is about 6-8 months.
A ton of cassava is sold on the farm price for N3k
A hectare will yield about 30 tons which is a trailer load.
3 tons of cassava will yield a ton of Gari
You can resell to large scale buyers in Lagos @ N9k per ton
The profit is N6k per ton.
You make much more money by processing the cassava into gari
A measure of Gari( 4 liter paint container) costs N300.00 post fuel subsidy(Lagos prices) .
How many measures can you derive from one ton of processed gari|?
You get about 8oo measures now retailing for N300.00, from a ton of processed gari
You will know that agriculture alone will wipe out unemployment in Nigeria for many generations to come if we go back to it.
Then, wonder why millions of educated Nigerians are still  roaming the streets and Internet forums looking for 'shirt and tie jobs' when there is Big Money in the Bush waiting to be harvested.
What are you waiting for?
Farming is the solution to unemployment

Please dont invest your money in agriculture in nigeria. You will loose money this is an honest advise. You might even recover what your investment. Tone of cassava is 7000 naira and you will have to transport it the company your self that will buy

Why are you seeing negatives and discouraging interested persons from investing in agriculture?

Our failure as a nation by not investing in agriculture is the major reason why smaller nations like Malaysia,Singapore and Thailand has overtaken us in the economic order.Thailand is one of the largest exporters of rice in the world while Nigeria is the largest importer of rice from Thailand. Singapore is the largest producer of catfish yet the country is no bigger than Lagos state. Yet Nigeria is one of the largest importers of frozen fish in the world. Malaysia is the largest producer of palm oil produce in the world, which Nigeria neglected.

Millions of Nigerian educated are unemployed roaming the streets while the agricultural industry can wipe out employment in this nation for many years to come if we go back to it as we did in the 1950-60s before oil was discovered.
Do you know that the palm tree has 32 industries that can be created from it?
How many jobs has the oil industry created since 1970?It only created hundreds of universities without the industries that will absorb the graduates .

There is money to be made in the agricultural industry. The CBN is pumping N200 Billion this year 2012 into agriculture to give loans @ 9% to interested Nigerians. The agricultural commodities to be covered under the scheme are Cotton, oil palm, fruit trees, rubber, sugar cane, cocoa, rice, wheat, cassava, maize, soya, beans, millet, tomatoes, vegetables, meat, diary and piggery, fingerlings and catfish and many others.

For the details how to access this financing opportunity, see the Success Digest Vol 1,No.91 of Tuesday January 24,2012 Page 5 or their website www.successdigestdaily.com for the details or call their Bookstore Manager 08066571066 to mail you a copy of the publication or go to CBN and Bank of Industry for the details. It is time we go back to agriculture.
