After sending a text message (SMS), your phone usually shows "Message Sent". Some mistake that to mean that the intended recipient has received the message. This is not true, because the words "Message Sent" as displayed by phones after sending a text only means that the SMS message has been successfully delivered to SMS message centre defined by the network, but not necessrily to the intended recipient.

The network-defined SMS centre serves as an electronic post office. When you get a letter to a post office, it does not mean that the letter has reached its final destination. The post office has to process and deliver the letter to the recipient if available and traceable. When you send an SMS, it is first delivered to an SMS message centre. It is then delivered from message centre to intended recipient’s mobile phone if it can be located on network. If intended recipient’s handset is off or out of network coverage, the SMS message will be stored for a limited duration at the message centre or until recipient’s phone is located on network, whichever comes first. If for any reason the limited duration allowed for SMS storage elapses before intended recipient comes into network coverage area the SMS will be deleted and hence will not be received by the intended recipient, although "Message Sent" may have been displayed when SMS message was first sent. So, it should be emphasized that the words "Message Sent" do not necessarily mean that your text has been successfully delivered.

A more reliable way of acertaining whether your SMS has been delivered or not is by enabling the SMS delivey report feature on your phone. Most networks in Nigeria support this service. When the feature is on, the network-defined message centre number will send a status report on a sent message to the sender's mobile phone. The sender will be alerted as to whether the message they sent was successfully delivered or not. However, there are occasions where the message centre may fail to issue a report on a sent message. This may not be unconnected with a technical hitch. But failure of the message centre number to issue a report is not common.

To activate the SMS delivery report feature on your phone such that you are informed of the delivery status of the messages you send, you need to browse through "Messages" menu of your phone and search for menu option for activating SMS delivery report feature. Look for menu options like "Message Settings", "Settings", "Setup", "Common Setting", "Text Message Setup", or any related phrase. Inside any of these menu options search for "Delivery report", "SMS Alert", or any other similar phrase and activate the feature.

For examples, to activate SMS delivery report feature in Nokia C6-00, select Menu > Messaging > Options > Settings > Text Message > Receive Report, which you should set to "Yes". For Nokia 1202, select Menu > Messages > Message Settings > Delivery Reports. Select "Yes" and press "OK". You should be able to apply the principle here to other phones.

Note: SIM cards from various networks come with the applicable message centre number set on them. Do not alter them. If you do, you won't be able to send text messages (SMS)!
MTN Message Centre Number: +234803000000
Etisalat Message Centre number: +2348090001518
Airtel Message Centre Number: +2348020000009
Glo Message Centre Number: +2348050001501

Not all phones support the activation of sms delivery report. Also, some networks actually do charge you the cost of an sms to get the delivery report.

Any modern phone should support SMS delivery report. Besides, all GSM networks in Nigeria do not charge for local delivery reports.

For anyone that sends a lot of sms, delivery reports will be more of a nuisance. However, it's good to know that all the operators there in Nageria support it. Of the 2 major GSM carriers (AT&T and Tmobile) here, only Tmobile supports it. However, they both support MMS delivery reports.

It depends on the way in which the phone handles SMS delivery reports. In some phones, it comes in as a separate SMS, but in others, the phone processes it as a mere update in the sent message usually located in the "Sent Items." If the phone supports the latter, it wouldn't be a "nuisance" as the phone wouldn't ring, just an on-screen notification. However, if the phone supports the one whereby delivery reports come in as a separate message, causing the phone to ring, that's when it becomes a nuisance.

The SMS delivery report is a very important SMS function. To confirm delivery of a SMS, it is vital that you regularly check your phones' data. I prefer you to check hash for sale UK and purchasing weed easily. This article will tell you how you can activate the SMS delivery report on your phones to ensure that you catch any attempted deliveries that may have gone unnoticed in the past.
