Senator calls for Petroleum Minister’s resignation

ABEOKUTA—The Chairman, Senate Committee on Privatisation and Commercialisation, Gbenga Obadara has called for resignation of the Minister for Petroleum, Mrs. Diezani Allison-Madueke, to allow fair probe into the ministry’s activities.

Obadara who represents Ogun Central Senatorial District, spoke in Abeokuta, yesterday, after  a visit to his constituency. He said   the Petroleum Minister, should step aside as to pave way for a genuine probe of the ministry under her watch.

He said:  “The woman is not supposed to be on that seat pending the outcome of investigations into  activities of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC.

“I am not saying that she is guilty but from the series of revelations coming from the probe, she is not innocent, she ought to resign honourably as a decent person.

“I think when speaking of corruption, it is her ministry that is highly endemic in that aspect, so let her go or be  re-assigned by the President  to a less sensitive ministry, if Mr. President still wants her in his cabinet.

“In these days when the clamour for probity and accountability are being demanded  from  our public office holders. Nigerians expect  Mr. President to have asked the Petroleum Minister  to step aside over the oil subsidy removal scam.

”The Petroleum Minister must leave office,at least for now to clear herself. That is what is obtainable in civilised societies of the world.”

she is doing her job, which is stealing for herself and her sponsor. so why should they want her to resign. she is just stealing with her pen. the big question is

who appointed her and why. Accountablity should start from the head. when you appoint people, there should be a yard stick on how you evaluate them.

so ask mr  president on what merit was she appointed.

That woman had been in the minister of works and also solid minerals before and all we got out of it was sheer incompetence. In a saner country she would be in jail already. But this is Nigeria we're talking about - the hotbed of absurdity.

Former President, Olusegun Obasanjo was in charge of Petroleum some years back when most of the directives that were given to NNPC, Central Bank, Ministry of Finance and Customs on importation of petroleum  products were given as revealed by these investigations. These directives gave room for the huge corruption we have seen in the NNPC and Petroleum sector today. Several investigations into NNPC and the sector were conducted by the House of Representatives during the period, but neither Obasanjo nor Obaseki the Head of NNPC or his successor ever resigned during these investigations and everyone of us kept quiet. I used to think that what is good for the geese is also good for the gander or is Deziani's own different.

The only thing needed for evil to thrive is for good men not to speak out.
OBJ will have his day in court too.
Do not abort this probe with ethnic sentiments the way the subsidy protests were in the SE/SS. cool cool cool cool cool cool cool

Do they raise motions in the Senate? If yes, then he should prepare a motion and do just that.
Re: Senator Obadara Calls For Diezani Allison-madueke's Resignation by GboyegaD(m): 7:51pm On Feb 08, 2012
The president should have asked her to step down to transfer her to some other ministeries if he and the house are genuine about the probe into NNPC. At the end of the day, it is just a farce to placate Nigerians that we are truly fighting corruption. Who don't know these guys are mere facades? They are as corrupt as corruption.

I have a prayer: please God,  God please, excuse (4rm life) the Pharaohs of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, that won't let the country GO,  executing ur vengeance NoW!!!,

Punish them according to the level of their dishonesty, oppression, loot, embezzlement, lies, injustices, daylight robbery, kick-backs & denial of the dividend of DEMOCRACY.
Let their names be forgotten & their children be ruin as they milk Nigeria with such impunity; their investments shall be eaten up by invisible cancawarm & the ground shall pave way for liquid fire to consume them + their cronies.

Finally i shall see the glory of God in this Land (Nigeria), God's goodness & mercies shall follow me, dwell with me all the dayz of my LIFE! sobeit: amen!!  cool

truely she can be suspend or having compulsory leave for the main time this probe will take for fair justification but mind you,she is not the first minister of Petroleum Resource that started this mess.My advice is that, they should also call her predeccesor to come and explain their own view, becos she work basically on wht she meet on the papper.
Re: Senator Obadara Calls For Diezani Allison-madueke's Resignation by xavier047: 3:33pm On Feb 09, 2012
If her ministry is been investigated for corrupt practises, the government dont have to wait for her to resign,it is either she is suspended indefinitely or given the boot pending the outcome of the investigation. This opinion is based on the fact if the govt are truly bent on eradicating corruption in that sector

We all know that she not suppose to be there whole the probe last, but in Nigeria she is helping us even when we all she has been helping herself. She should be reassigned pls
