The State Security Services (SSS) on Friday gave a vivid account of the rearrest Friday morning in Mutum Biu, Taraba State, the Boko Haram kingpin, Kabiru

Umar(alias Kabiru Sokoto), who escaped from Police custody in Abuja, three weeks ago.

The arrest was said to have been effected, following more than one week of profiling conducted on Sokoto.

According to sources, Kabiru Sokoto, was smoked out from where he was hiding in the clothes rack at the residence of an accomplice.

Saturday Tribune gathered that following the failure of the police to handle the case professionally, leading to Sokoto’s escape in their hands in Abuja, the Federal Government immediately mandated the SSS to take over the case.

Kabiru Sokoto is acclaimed to be the number two man in the Boko Haram hierarchy and suspected to be the mastermind of the December 25, 2011 bomb blast on St. Theresa’s Catholic Church, Madalla, Niger state, which claimed more than 40 lives.

A source, who gave further insights into the arrest, explained that the operatives did what they called “professional profiling,” on Kabiru Sokoto and traced him from Makurdi to Taraba.

Sources close to the administration confirmed that operatives were asked to monitor Sokoto’s movements as well as the movement of people linked with him.

He reportedly landed in Nasarawa State sometime after he left Abuja, but his movements were not that straight.

“The tracking paid off on Thursday night when operatives were able to locate him in Taraba State and pick him up early Friday,” a source said.

“We can confirm to you that the DG of the SSS has ordered immediate questioning of the suspect. That has started immediately the man was brought to the Yellow House,” a source said adding that the operatives were interested in knowing how the suspect escaped from the police custody as well as all those involved in the escape.

Kabiru Sokoto, who was brought to Abuja immediately after his arrest under heavy security provided by military personnel and operatives of the Department of State Security Service (DSS), later confirmed to newsmen that he was actually the same Kabiru Sokoto that escaped from the police custody in Abaji.

Giving further details on the arrest, the spokesperson of the service, Ms Marilyn Ogar, said Kabiru Sokoto was apprehended by the operatives of the service and military personnel at around 4:30 am at a location in Taraba following a tip off.

Specifically, Ogar who paraded Kabiru Sokoto before newsmen in Abuja under heavy security said that Kabiru Sokoto, who escaped from lawful custody on January 15, at Abaji, in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), was rearrested at Mutum-Biu in Taraba.

According to her, "Kabiru Sokoto, was picked up from where he was hiding in the clothes rack at the residence of an accomplice."

She said that preliminary investigations revealed that, "on his escape, he had taken refuge at Umaisha in Toto Local Government Area of Nasarawa State before he fled to Taraba State where he was eventually rearrested."

Ogar said that the suspect was arrested earlier in the day and had to be brought to Abuja for further interrogation stressing, "we have processes and procedures in the service, he will have to follow such processes and procedures which will guide the service on the next line of action.

Ogar, who assured that the suspect would be charged to court as soon as possible dismissed a question of fundamental human rights of Kabiru Sokoto raised by a journalist, saying, "yes, he has rights but he cannot use his rights to infringe on the rights of the entire nation going by the activities of his group."

On the alleged invasion of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Headquarters, Abuja over the Boko Haram video tape by SSS, Ogar denied the allegation, saying it was even the service that authorised the NTA to air the controversial tape when the service was contacted.

Re: Xmas Day Bombing: How Kabiru Sokoto Was Rearrested by hardbody: 11:53am On Feb 11, 2012
@ufumes, minute details of security operations will make it easy for other criminals to have some understanding of the workings of the system and therefore will tend to be a step ahead of the law at any point in time. Such info is released on a need to know basis. Bottom line is he was tracked down after profiling to his final point in mutum biu. The saddest part is how all these supposedly strong and hard guys are always pulled out from holes that will make d weakest of women feel very low. It is rather very shameful. People like him should be strong enough to pursue his beliefs to d point of death, afterall he has engineered more than 40 deaths in one fell swoop.

What about the Military Officer that was with him when he was arrested in Abuja? Heard he is an Air Force Officer. There is a need to know his identity/whereabouts also, especially as Boko Haram killed 3 airforce personnel in Kano.

@patuwa2, remember boko haram were responsible for the jail break in bauchi, so sending him to prison will do no good.

this simply means that Nigeria security operatives could work when they mean to.

Why don't they mean to work all the time?

[size=14pt]sb help? was K.sokoto actually re-arrested or is this a kind of fix by his back up cabal when they saw many heads were rolling and they ran out of ideas due to prayers unto God for justice, and asked him to hand over himself. The SSS story above is loop like in nature without strategic details.
pls clear my doubts.
cos i 1da why he has not shaved his unique bear which one of his easiest identification mark and others, me think they just told him to surface and they are probably on strategy B, on how to delay justice on him 4 the next 50yrs.

recall rev king is still being moved from prison to prison in his white suits
Re: Xmas Day Bombing: How Kabiru Sokoto Was Rearrested by initstime: 7:41pm On Feb 11, 2012
[size=8pt]Distance between mutum biu and Cameroon is about 92 miles, a trekable distance in less than 10 days for sb whose life is on the danger list with 50million naira ransome on the persons head. How come K.sokoto prefered to be taking warmth in a pack of cloths
if he came thru markurdi, he could ave been safely conveyed to lagos in a truck of yam or truck of bags of guinea corn to far north,
this are simple strategies he could have used without much money even. How come he didn't?
does it mean sb who could outsmart a police truck with 10men with hand-cuffd can't think.

Men and brethren, this drama is still unfolding.help my curiosity.

Kudos to the SSS for a very good job: re-arresting the escaped convict within one month!

I hope they grill him properly and very quickly charge him to court for the murder of all those killed by BH to date as well as being accessory to murder. Let's hope the judge will give him speedy trial and sentence him to deserved death by hanging. He can follow his mentor saddam Hussein of Iraq who promised the "mother of all wars" but was fished out of a rat-hole with American cookies and chocolate shocked

Likes of you makes me wonder. So, the SSS is parading a fake person. Why not bring the real person out then if you know where he is?

TV should scramble the PUMA logo on his shirt. It's negative publicity against PUMA.

Let us just look at the good side of Kabiru Sokoto, he did not launch attack at Mauriln Ogar the SSS spokeswoman who was so close to him at the press briefing, he could have done so if he so wishes and remove some of her teeth. He could have made an about-turn and wrestle the rifle from the DSS guy behind him, and shoot the hell out of everyone in the room so let's clap for him for being so cooool. We should also learn a lesson that NAIRA is not all it takes from the guy he was found with because he could have easily exposed him and claim =N=50m
