Ojukwu's Burial: Crowd Control As The Greatest Challenge During Burial by victorazy(m): 7:58am On Feb 13, 2012
As the March 2 burial date for the late ex-Biafra leader, Ikemba Odumegwu Ojukwu, draws closer, the National Burial Committee led by Justice Chukwudifu Oputa has identified crowd control as the greatest challenge being anticipated when the corpse finally arrives his hometown Umudim, Nnewi on Mach 1.

Chairman of the Works Committee, Chief Victor Umeh, told newsmen that a huge crowd was being expected in his hometown when the body would arrive home, pointing out that efforts were being stepped up to see how best to control the crowd, which, he said, was already giving the committee headache.

Umeh spoke at the weekend in Ojukwu’s home in Umudim Nnewi when the members of the burial committee including Senator Uche Chukwumerije, Prof. ABC Nwosu, secretary, Sentor Azu Agboti, Nnia Nwodo, former governor of Cross River State, Clement Ebri, inspected renovation work going on in the Nnewi compound.

Umeh expressed satisfaction with the pace of work assuring that everything needed to be put in place would be achieved in good time before the burial. Said he: “You can see for yourself we have done so much here; we have gotten this place almost ready for the burial ceremony on March 2; you can see the tomb there; its almost getting completed; by early next week they will roof it, do the marble work and all that. So we are set for the ceremony; this place is wearing a new look now; our prayer is that the rest of the work that needs to be done in other areas will also be ready before then. We still need about two weeks to work and I am sure by then everything will be ready.”

He explained that the works committee was a very large committee with sub-committees responsible for specific works, pointing out that there was a committee for traffic management whose duty it would be to sort out parking arrangement for that day. He noted that some of the roads in Nnewi were still being worked upon, adding that in the next two weeks would be remarkable improvement in the road network around the town.

Umeh, who is also the national chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), however, disclosed that the greatest challenge the committee might face during the burial might be crowd management. “We know that this place will be besieged by people on the day of interment. But the security sub-committee has experience,

People, please develop your state with money. Nigerians should learn to give people a good burial that doesn't cost a fortune. There is austerity everywhere you know?

You so called committee should just shut up about all the noise and attention for Ojukwu’s burial, you been been seeking attention maybe to make some money by crying wolfs in the media.
The other day, they came with Boko Haram to strike on Ojukwu’s burial
The next time Boko haram dares not strike on Ojukwu’s burial
All this is plot to make noise and publicize the burial using the present problems known by Nigerians
Just bury the man and forget all the useless attention you have been crying for in the media
Ojukwu is dead, he served his generation lay him to rest and stop attracting attention

I checked the thread to see suggestions on what to do about the crwod control and all i saw was people wailing and getting all emotional- same as with most ojukwu threads.

Well, understandable given the huge loss incurred by the civil war, but practical suggestions are what is needed now since a foreseeable problem has been identified.
