I have a sister thats never been to Nigeria to live before(apart from yearly holiday :p) and we are all going back she has completed her HND and wants to apply for a top up degree in September 2012 to complete a full degree. She has two options either to do a Business management top up then graduate or do a Business Law as the top up course then graduate.
I don't understnad the idea but can you advise in anyway please. If she does Business Law I was thinking she can go to Nigerian Law school and seek employment after which gives her flexibility as she can get a business job eventually with the Business HND background plus business law. She's not smart with calculations but good in english, languages and reading. On the other hand I was thinking if she does her Top up in buisness management she'll do MBA and get a job simple. Which do you think is less challenging in this reccession yet gives a good career oppourtunity. Don't hold back your ideas we both don't know much about how anything works in Nigeria kindly advice, Thank you

From my own knowledge of the business field, I would suggest taking the business management top up. Business Law deals with just the contractual aspect of business, thereby she is being restricted but business management on the other hand, she gets detailed insight into all aspect of business management and organization, business law inclusive, business law is a section under business mgmt, so why settle for a section when u can have the entire package in management

Your sister can go for Law and still go for her MBA, since she has a flair in English.Irrespective of your discipline you can go for MBA, we have engineers, accountants, economist, doctors, architects e.t.c who go for MBA.MBA is not meant for a particular profession
For business management you need to do calculation in courses like basic accounting, financial management, statistics, quantitative analysis, business mathematics.Since she's not too good at joggling figures,I would advise she goes for business law and still do her MBA,but mind you she's still going to do all these courses mentioned.

If she chose Business Law, she still cannot attend the Nigerian Law School or practice Law in Nigeria. To do any of that, she must hold an LL.B from a recognised Commonwealth University.

As for career opportunities, I think both courses are ok. If she opts for business law which is also known as commercial law, she can work as the company's secretary in banks and multi national companies or better still work in the legal dept of these banks and companies.
Well business mgt has good prospect, but it's a no go area for her since she does not have flair in figures

She can study in law school, business law is a branch of law, you have to specialize in any area that you think you like, for example you specialize in criminal, international law & jurisprudence, property, commercial, civil, labour and environmental law just to mention a few and there is no restriction as to where you can study law,you can study in America,UK e.t.c all you need do is you have to satisfy certain conditions which includes attending law school, before you can be called to bar.

Please stop beating around the bush.

Forget Business management, forget Business law.

"Business" holds better prospects than the above.

It has been pointed out that if she is to go to law school she must have graduated with an llb from any commonwealth institution. But in my opinion Business Management covers it all if she doesn't have a flair for figures she just has to work on it. Everybody can learn if they really want to.

I believe she probably favours business law however business management offers wider opportunities and openness to employment in Nigeria. And again shes not that 'bad' with figures; i've seen worse people do better.

I think business law might be better, I just say that since it seems the background is required in most areas of management. not a profesh opinion sha

People include human resources both inside and outside the business, including employees, stakeholders, retailers-wholesalers, customers, and anyone involved directly or indirectly in the process. It is very important to consider and take care of the needs of each person who is part of the business https://www.mediapost.com/publications/article/355192/sports-illustrated-chief-ross-levinsohn-named-ma.html
