I don't think Mata would have helped. Mata flourish when United dominates, but unseen when we are dominated, particularly when dominated with long balls. Lingard would have done better than Mata. Lingard has a good defensive sense and he would have combined well with Valencia to take the ball forward on a counter.

Carrick and Herrera who had more defensive abilities were not able to cope with the long balls, so Mata wouldn't have done anything.

Mata? I don't think he coulda been the solution. Mata is a soft dude who doesn't thrive when his team is under intense pressure.

He keeps the ball well and makes intelligent decisions.. but that's only when the atmosphere is cool and he has enough space around him to flourish. Any little touch from an opponent will throw him off balance and have him easily dispossessed. Yeah, Mata is soft like that.

Bringing that dude in that game, with that kind of pressure from Everton will even make it worst for United.

wow! Our responses are almost same.

Mata appears missing in any game his team is being outplayed. What he needs is for his team to be dominating so that he'll see space to play to his strength - spreading passes etc.

We lost possession completely when Carrick, Herrera, Pogba, Mkhitaryan, Martial and Ibrahimovic were on the field. What we needed was a ball winner and players who could really run. Fellaini was not a bad choice though, being he can win long balls. But I think Lingard should have also come in. He is better at winning the ball on the ground than the rest of our forwards, and he can run with it to start a counter.

We were doing fine with their long balls, Mata's link up play is just about the best in the team that's why I think he'd have served us better especially with the exit of Miki...
