You are the one not making sense.

Pogba couldn't even make the bench in our matches then. We had senior players/midfielders on the bench. Is football Father Christmas to please someone who was a 6th choice midfielder? Why didn't we see Matic for Chelsea those days before he left?

how's pogba 6th choice when anderson & cleverley were out injured? scholes had retired, giggs was a liability in the midfield. only carrick & fletcher were a bit functional.

pogba & morrison were ripe to be promoted that year. SAF messed up & he's the reason our midfield is in a sorry state. he let his undying love for scholes cloud his judgement. he sacked keane cos of fletcher but he sacrificed pogba for a 37-year old scholes.

can you see the irony?

SAF should have done Father Christmas for Pogba when we needed to catch City on goals difference?

but he still ended up doing father christmas, didn't he? we were 8 points clear of city with 6 games to go. city ate up the deposit & we ended up with nothing.

it then means - fergie not promoting pogba backfired. his only saving grace was he won it a season later in style with the help of van persie. the midfield was still a mess that year with zombies like phil jones making a mockery of the sweet memories of keane, robson, hargreaves in our midfield.

* I have given you the timeline of our matches, it is unbelievable you still think there was space for Pogba before Dec 31st or when Scholes returned. Before Dec 31st, we had at least three midfielders in virtually every game with one or two on the bench. There was no reason to call up Pogba. Even in about three occasions we use Jones before Dec 31, won our matches except the draw at Anfied.

* We couldn't have use Pogba when we chase behind City for most part of the season and when we needed to catch up with goals difference too.

* Our midfielders were Scholes, Fletcher, Carrick, Cleverley, Anderson, Jones, Gibson, Giggs. We won all the way with these guys. We had at least 3 or 4 of them available for virtually all the matches.
Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by elampiro(m): 1:03am On Aug 28, 2014
Did you just imply we shouldn't have recalled Scholes to resurrect our title hope of 2011/12?

Coogar, you have forgotten we were not in the league of 2011/12 to experiment. We were in contention and SAF used his best and most reliable legs at the time. Same legs who were second best in Europe.
Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by elampiro(m): 1:12am On Aug 28, 2014
If football was about keeping faith and experimenting, then Blackett, James, Januzaj and Powell would start all our matches for Gaal.

Matic and Sturridge wouldn't have been sold by Chelsea.

Probably a 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1

grin History? You had your chance last season when every top team were taking 3 points from OT, but still couldn't.

I could bet my kidney, ArseNal won't get 3 points from Man Utd this season!

DiMaria on joining Manchester United:
"I’m very pleased to play for United…I wanted to come here even though they’re not playing Champions League. I wanted to help the team to get in and win the Champions League.

"I've come to United to help the team raise their game and become an important team once again. I want to win many trophies with them."

..........

"He can accelerate our play and he fits in our philosophy. I have spoken already about his way of playing in the interests of the team that I like and he can accelerate our play and our style." Gaal

..........

More on transfers from van Gaal:
"I cannot talk transfers, because the price will be raised. We cannot react on every rumour but also players shall go. Maybe after this weekend, we will have another group. The club will announce when the time is there. Players will leave. Others will come."

On injuries:
Some players will return after the International break. Rojo is in Madrid working on his work permit, he will hopefully have it by friday 12pm. Di Maria does NOT need a work permit as he holds an Italian passport.

Gaal: Di Maria will be my new Robben

Submitted by Tribal Football Staff 2014-08-27T11:59:19+00:00

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has explained why he wanted the signing of former Real Madrid winger Angel di Maria.

Van Gaal has likened Di Maria to Bayern Munich star Arjen Robben.

"I have bought Di Maria because he can play inside and wide," confirmed van Gaal at a press conference following the Capital One Cup exit at the hands of MK Dons. "It's very handy is that for a coach.

"So maybe you remember when I was trainer-coach of Bayern Munich, I bought Arjen Robben, also in late August. He could also play on the wings and inside so then I have always the opportunity to change [tactics] but that is a process."

However, van Gaal is not sure whether he will alter his system and formation to accommodate the South American talent. When asked if he may switch to a 4-3-3, he replied: "That’s the process. I cannot clarify because we have to see in the process what we are doing. Exactly what I am saying is you cannot click your fingers and switch to another system. You are working and have to train with it.

"It’s a matter of time because the process needs time and we shall see if, with Di Maria, we have to change the system or not. I think he shall contribute very much in our way of playing, he is also a creative player. I think that he can contribute and that’s very important but we don’t want expect, from tomorrow, that the world has changed – no. He needs to get used to the culture of the Premier League and to the philosophy of Manchester United."

Van Gaal added: "He was at my hotel and I spoke very shortly and he said he was physically well. I have to see that [for myself] as he didn’t train today. Tomorrow, he shall participate in our training session. I shall see and speak more with him."

Angel Di Maria unveiled by Manchester United: as it happened

By Cameron Macphail

3:29PM BST 28 Aug 2014

15.44 It's wrap.

Here are the main bullet points.

LVG says players will leave by deadline day on Monday

Herrera remains injured & Rojo is still waiting on his work permit

"I'll play anywhere LVG wants me too" says ADM

Cristiano told him about the no.7 shirt importance

Join Giles Mole now for the Champions League draw which take place at 4.45pm UK time

(Sorry United fans. Maybe next year)

15.42 And here he is.

Welcome to Old Trafford, Angel. #WelcomeDiMaria pic.twitter.com/s22CJ3CHT0

— Manchester United (@ManUtd) August 28, 2014

15.31 A bit of good news regarding incoming transfers: "The club will [announce] when the time's there. Players will leave, others will come."

15.29 More bad news. "Marcos Rojo is working on his permit. He must go abroad for it. He is abroad in the [Argentine] embassy in Madrid but it’s taking more time than expected."

15.27 Van Gaal is being pressed on the team's failings. "We have no problem when the opponent has the ball…but our problem is when we have the ball and have to build up the play."

And the team is beset by a raft of injuries. "Herrera is injured so we have 10 injuries, 1 more than last week." Sean Dyche is sharpening his claret knives...

15.24 "He shall be indeed a player who can enjoy the fans…(sic)…but he is a modest guy and he wants to work," says LVG. "Last year he played 52 matches and gave 22 assists…how many players can do that? He is a social human being."

15.23 On the importance of the number 7: "I am aware of its importance. Cristiano Ronaldo spoke to me at Real Madrid and explained. I hope I can live up to it."

And the price tag? "It does not bother me that they’ve paid £60m. I come here to work and do the best I can for Manchester United."

....

Rumours of Villa bidding for Cleverley
Rumours of Juve and Valencia after Hernandez
I still hope Welbeck stays even though he's heavily linked with Spurs.
Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by elampiro(m): 4:21pm On Aug 28, 2014
15.20: Asked where he prefers to play: "I come here to work for the team and I am prepared to play in any position the manager wants me to play in."

15.15 Is LVG shocked by the club's decline? "I don't want to answer that out of respect for Moyes and Mr Ferguson."

He bigs up the fans for the singing at MK Dons and asks them to be patient. "A lot of money needs to be spent. in spite of preseason wins in the US the team won't be built in a month."

15.14 "United is a great club and has already won many trophies. It was my boyhood dream to play for United. I come here to help raise their game help them to be great again and to win many trophies with them."

15.12 "What was the attraction of coming to the club? " asks Oggy.

ADM "I wanted to come here to help the team to get into the CL and I think that i can help. I am very pleased that the manager chose me to come to Man Utd. We have to work for a miracle. Di Maria's arrival is not a miracle."

15.09 "I only buy players that can improve our philosophy…(also) I can change the system with him and maybe we will do that in future. Maybe even during a match. He played at Real Madrid not only as a wide wing player but also in midfield. This is why we are convinced he shall succeed."

15.08 So no questions allowed about that letter to Real fans says the club PR.

LVG: "We have many class players but Angel can play in the interests of the team."

"Sadly the time has come for me to leave, but I would like to make it clear that it was never my wish," he wrote.

"After winning the 10th Champions League I went to the World Cup with the hopes of receiving a gesture form the board, something that never arrived. Much has been said and many lies have been told. There has been a desire all along to attribute to me a desire to leave the club, something that has never been the case.

"The only things I ever asked for is what I considered to be just and fair. There are many things that I value and many of them have nothing to do with my salary. I hope to find them at Manchester United, one of the biggest clubs in the world and one with which I hope I can make history."
Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by elampiro(m): 4:25pm On Aug 28, 2014
14.23 He doesn't speak English yet but ADM has given his first interview as a United player.

"When I was young in Argentina I used to look at the Premiership and I was drawn to Manchester United, so I have always thought it would be a nice club to come to.

"I want to achieve great things with Manchester United and I would like to win many trophies with them. One of the objectives and one of the goals would be to actually get back into the Champions League.

"Lately I have been playing in midfield, on the left hand side, and I was feeling quite cofirtable there. I think I’m going to play in the same role for Manchester United."
