Efcc Re-arraigns Femi Fani-kayode On 47-count Charge Of Money Laundering by mukina2: 6:53pm On Feb 16, 2012
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has re-arraigned former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode on a 47-count charge of money laundering before a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos.

The former Minister who was first arraigned before Justice Ramat Mohammed of the same court on December 23, 2008, was re-arraigned before a new judge, Justice Binta Murtala-Nyako on Thursday because of the re-assignment of the case by the Chief Judge following the transfer of Justice Mohammed out of Lagos.

Femi Fani-Kayode has pleaded not guilty to all the counts and Justice Murtala-Nyako ordered that he should continue to enjoy bail on the same terms granted by the former court.

The former minister is accused of laundering various sums of money totaling N230 million through some of his aides, his wife, Regina Fani-Kayode and daughter, Remilekun between August 2006 and March 2007.

His counsel, Chief Ladi Williams told the court that a motion seeking to stay further proceedings at the Federal High Court is expected to be heard at the Supreme Court on the 21st of May.

According to the counsel, “an interlocutory appeal against the decision of the Lagos Division of the Appeal Court which admitted the statement of account of the former minister as evidence has been entered at the Supreme Court.”

Mr Fani Kayode's counsel was also opposed to the re-arraignment of his client on the premise that the judges of the Appeal Court while admitting his client’s statement of account as evidence did not order for a fresh trial.

ACADEMIC EXERCISE

Prosecution counsel, Festus Afeiyodian, however contends that the re-arraignment of the case has rendered the interlocutory appeal lodged at the Supreme Court an academic exercise. He submitted “that there is no proof that the said interlocutory appeal has been entered at the Supreme Court.”

Justice Nyako while adjourning the matter till the 24th of April for mention directed the defence to file necessary processes regarding the interlocutory appeal. She also directed the accused person “not to travel out of the country, without the leave of the court pending the final determination of the suit.”

This EFCC self they like slamming scores of charges on people, at the end of the day nothing comes out of the case. You Hardly hear of one or two count charges and they have both resident and external lawyers. Na wah o

And how is this witch-hunting? He should go and clear his name in court. Comments like yours show just why tackling corruption is hard in Nigeria. Here is a man who held a position being called to account for his time in office and you call that witch-hunting?
I used to think you were one of the more objective guys on this forum.

I am one of the pple who blve dat public office holders shld give account of their time in office but the reiemergence of this seemingly dead case after FFK's airing of his opinion during the summmit last week leaves me little option than to want to agree it's a case of witch-hunting.

We are tired of the old story

Apparently you do not know that Justice, she no send anybody. Fani Kayode should not be afraid if he is clean, why is he trying to frustrate the process, let the courts decide.

I know Femi Fani Kayode is a thief but why are they arraigning him now. is it because he has become an activist overnight? I guess he was looking for a political appointment but got a criminal appointment.

I remember FFK's time in office and his loud mouthedness under OBJ. He apparently did not notice that EFCC was also witch-hunting then. He couldn't talk because he had food in his mouth.
Whether there is proof or not, the annoying part is the fact that people just become invariably (inevitably) wealthy once they are out of office. EFCC is playing a familiar game.
Ooops! Let's give Lamorde the benefit of the doubt.

this what the report had to say

Whats witch hunt there? The man had his case stalled because he went looking for injunctions in superior courts and the trial judge was transferred. A new Judge has come so let FFK prepare his defence. Even if its a thousand years nigerians deserve JUSTICE!

See equal to zero brainy people calling this Witch hunt. While you guyz were busy occupying Nigeria, those politicians were occupying your brains (imagine Elrufai, Fani kayode, Tinubu, commanding crowds) Fani Kayode is a product of OBJ rein, He is a corrupt fowl, he stole and as such should be prosecuted, it is left for the court to let him out ( like Bakole and co).
