WARRI— ABOUT 20 persons were reported to have been wounded, while the whereabouts of two persons remained unknown following an inter-communal clash between two neighbouring communities, Okuno Jesse and Otumara-Jesse in Ethiope West Local Government Area of Delta State.

It was gathered that the crisis caused by the disappearance of a two-year-old child of a native of Okuno-Jesse, which made his kinsmen to storm Otumara-Jesse with guns, cutlasses, battle axes, among others and allegedly unleashed mayhem on the villagers.

One Chief Joseph Akodi was allegedly kidnapped and beaten by the youths, who mutilated his body after attacking a police station in Jesse.

The two missing Otumara-Jesse indigenes were identified as Iboyi Okoro and Unuvwota Okoro, while the father of the two-year-old child, whose disappearance generated the crisis is Mr. Okpanoko.

It was further gathered that since February 9, residents had been fleeing Otumara-Jesse as a result of the attack. Property worth millions of naira, including crops, domestic animals, electricity poles, cables, buildings, and an oil palm mill, belonging to the Unugbrogodo of Idjerhe Kingdom, Chief J. I. Ogude, at Otumara-Jesse, were allegedly destroyed by invading youths.

In a petition to the Commissioner of Police, Delta State, Commander, Joint Task Force, JTF, and the Department of State Security, Chief Isaac Ejenavi, Chief Matthew Obioguru, Pa. Orievwe Ogude and other leaders of Otumara, said the mother of the missing two-year-old child, residing in the community reported to her husband, who is an indigene of Okuno that their child was missing, early February.

It was gathered that consequently, Okuno community sent emissaries to Otumara community, demanding that the missing child be produced dead or alive and Otumara replied that the child was not in their custody, and so could not produce him.

The Otumara leaders said Okuno people in reaction, allegedly launched an attack against their community. They pleaded with the government and relevant security agencies to come to their rescue and save them from annihilation.
