London-An old Bailey Court had yesterday, February 16 sentenced a Nigerian youth Sadiq Adeojo to 30 years in prison. Sodiq was sentenced for his role in the murder of another Nigerian youth, 17-year-old Sylvester Akapalara in December 29, 2010. The deceased who was athelete attended Richmond College.


Sodiq Adeojo, 20, was part of the Brixton GAS Gang who chased and killed Sylvester Akapalara and two friends. Until his death, Sylvester was a promising 400-meter runner with Herne Hill Harriers. He was hit in the neck by a bullet by the gang members.

According to Judge Timothy Pontious, “Sylvester was an athlete of remarkable ability. He happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. It seems he was just one of the many victims targeted in the last few years in mindless and appalling violence simply because of their membership or supposed membership of opposing gangs.”
