After the uncertainties that arose as a result of Whitney Houston’s death, Grammy award winning American musician Robert Barisford Brown – Bobby Brown – is coming to Nigeria. It will be his first trip ever to the West African nation and he will be touching down with his pop group, New Edition.

The R&B singer, who has been in the headlines very recently, after he stormed out of his ex-wife’s funeral, confirmed his appearance for the high budget concert organized by R28 events in an audio statement released on Monday from his base in America. The concert is scheduled for Friday March 9 in Lagos and Sunday March 11, in Port Harcourt.

In the audio message, Brown said, “We’ll be rocking the stage live in Nigeria live on March 9 and 11. Don’t you dare miss it.” The event producers said that Bobby Brown considers performing as therapy to get him through a difficult time. “He wrote to us last week that he’d like to do this concert in memory of Whitney, and we said fine.”

According to their management, the former group members will travel to Nigeria with a crew of 50 band members and associates. The organizers have also confirmed that 2face, Banky W, Duncan Mighty are getting set to perform alongside the visiting group. Other co-headliners include Omawumi, eLDee, Burna Boy and Modenine.

“Music fans who appreciate the quality of good musical performances will be thrilled by the collection of the finest musicians we are putting together, this is a concert you don’t want to miss,” Gbolahan Balogun MD of R28 Events says.

"Therapy to get him through this difficult times" very funny, so why not perform for free? he is indirectly benefiting from the attention whitney's death has brought to him and he is trying to make good use of it, so he shouldnt even act like he is sad cos even the day she died he still performed despite hearing of what happened. a crack head will always remain a crack head

Re: Bobby Brown To Perform In Lagos & Port Harcourt On March 9 & 11 by MrGlobe(m): 3:28pm On Feb 23, 2012
I guess this is his first show after Whitney (RIP) so its gonna attract the international media. Anyways I don't like new edition's music so am not going. But I hope the concert is nice.
*meanwhile why haven't any of these promoters booked the International watch the throne tour in Nigeria? Abi the money too big?*

9 - 11 is now a recurring decimal.

We have the Osama 9 - 11.

Whitney's death's 9 - 11.

Bobby concert's 9 - 11

You guess wrong. The man performed the day after Whitney died in Memphis, TN. He basically said that is the only way he can pay tribute to her and Bobby have been performing in different places even before the funeral. Bobby also perfomed in Mohegan Sun Indian Casino, Connecticut just hours after his ex-wife was laid to rest on Saturday and also performed in Baltimore, Maryland on Thursday night. Bobby performing is not new or news to the world since Whitney died unless to people like you who have no clue of what is going around you. If he didn't attract international media in an open society like USA, what makes you thing he going to Nigeria to perform will not attract international media. Forget about bad thing jo.

Naija please relax !!

Let's not brand the entire New Edition crew with the negative image of the individual Bobby Brown.

If anyone remembers Bobby Brown was practically invisible until his hit "My Prerogative" which came years after the New Edition crew split up.

Lets give New Edition which was a successful R&B group its time of day and respect or have we forgotten songs like "Candy Girl", "Cool It Down", "Mr. Telephone Man" or Ralph Tresvant's "Sensitivity".

Don't think I'll mind seeing New Edition perform live, however seeing Bobby Brown perform live and solo is a total impossibility for me!!!

if the promoters or organisers are sensible they should play down that name "bobby brown" and pomote this show as new edition show. I dont want to pay to watch bobby brown but because of this song "CANDY GIRL" I could reconsider. If the promoters are wise they better use their brains.

You are right. Bobby Brown is not New Edition; he was in fact voted out of the group because the guys could no longer tolerate him.He was insignificant in the group.Ralph Tresvant was the main man,he was infact refered to as the voice of New Edition, all the hits were led by the very talented but not so lucky Ralph Tresvant.
Remember the sultry Johnny Gills and of course Bell Biv Devoe.
Let us welcome and appreciate one of the best groups of all time-NEW EDITION!!!!

don't know why some folks are mannerless. You could have easily said you are not going but you chose to be the animal you are to disrespect the people that are attending, Grow up.
@ovieE New Edition were performing before whitney's death and after the death, they cancelled the their tour and later continued WITHOUT BOBBY!! He might have rejoined them, I dont know fo sure, He is coming to Nigeria and will likely pay a tribute to her, the reason intl media will be interested. Dont think you know much when you know nothing.
