Terrorism Is Biggest Threat To Nigeria After Civil War – Omeri by Dainfamous: 1:21am On Feb 29, 2012
Abuja- Mr Mike Omeri, the Director General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), has described the current bombing in some parts of the country as the biggest threat to the nation’s security after the civil war, which ended in 1970.

He made observation on Tuesday in Abuja at a news conference organised by the Homeland Secure, a non-governmental organisation, on the strategy to combat and prevent terrorism in the country.

Omeri, who was represented by an official of the agency, Mr John Tagwai, said that since 1999 the country had passed through many crises, adding that no democracy could thrive in crises.

He, however, said that the Federal Government was committed to protecting the people and warned those behind the current crises to desist, as perpetrators would be brought to justice.

Omeri said dialogue was the best option to resolve contending issues, and described as timely, the proposed conference on how to combat and prevent terrorism scheduled to take place between May 28 and May 30.

Earlier, Retired Brig.-Gen. Soyemi Sofoluwe, the Chairman of Homeland Secure, had said that the conference was aimed at fashioning out strategies to combat and prevent terrorism in the country.

Sofoluwe explained that Homeland Secure was a private sector collaboration of retired senior public servants, diplomats and security officials that brainstorm on matters of national interest.

He said the organisation would host the conference in conjunction with the National Orientation Agency (NOA) and some security organisations.

Sofoluwe said the outcome of the conference would be used to sensitise policy makers on how to create policies that would control the scourge of terrorism and create awareness in the populace through the media and NOA.

He called for the establishment of a “National Centre for Terrorism’’ to handle terrorism and terrorism-related issues.

“We at the Homeland Secure having deliberated on happenings in the recent past, decided to approach the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) for permission to organise the conference to develop a holistic approach to combating the challenges. (NAN)

Fools

The biggest threat to Nigeria is Corruption. You rig in unqualified people to pretend to be governors (Gbenga Daniel, Ibori, and now Theo Orji) senators- who can only make useless comments from time to time without having made any real legislation (David Mark, Ngige), and then decide to re-rig them in again.

You have previous leaders known to have embezzled, and they are walking around free from hostility.

You have leaders and their first ladies refusing to develop medical centers and instead die abroad after spending millios from the Naija Delta oil loot.

You have soccer officials who are willing to slice and dice millions with rejected European managers, who refuse to schedule and plan serious games and matches, and yet, Sani Lulu and co are still enjoying their loot.

You have incompetent policemen, army men, who cant defeat any other country or deal with Boko Haram, yet they are there cllecting n20 at head bridge Onicha.

You have a film industry that cant produce any modern movie with modern production, instead are corrupting the culture the more with monopolizing the industry and using foul language as dialogue without any meaningful purpose.

You have a govenment that cherishes the fact their people fly from and to their papaland on British Air, Air France, and Dubai Emirates, so they can make small gain for their aristo chicks.

Yes, even the proliferation of pastors who are in for money and power are not spared from the CORRUPTION that will and soon, collapse this country,

A very sincere description of a collapsing country!!!

Very easy to point the lazy finger at terrorism, what about the factors that lead to it?

Corruption, selfishness, dis-honesty amongst all other factors.

A nation where we find excuses for both political and religious vagabonds Touch not his anointed and let them thrive without bringing them to caution.

Nigerians deserve the bad leaders they elects and the resultant effects.

Unfortunately.the scourge is far beyond what the government can handle.I think there is more to the Boko Haram than what majority of us know. How else can one explain the fact that key players of the group have been arrested and yet,no headway.May God see us through.

Don't just mind him. He is looking for a scapegoat. Terrorism in Nigeria, is it not the spin-off of corruption? Either our leaders are poverty of intelligence to understand where the problems lie or they conspicuously gloss over the main issues and give a dog a bad name in order to hang it. Day of reckoning will soon come

We are all wrong - The biggest threat to Nigeria's existence are her people and their self-addiction to Blissful Ignorance. This mindset is the foundation to every pattern of failure, stagnancy, retrogression and conflict that we have today. We know the right thing to do but simply do not do it because for some unknown reason, we will survive, E go better, no lele, God dey, God knows best, give him another chance, if na you nko etcetera. we have created a flourishing environment where all bad and ignoble things thrive with great abandon. 150 million blissfully-ignorant citizens is the greatest threat to any nation.
If we claim we have Purpose, then were is the Action. A man without purpose is a good example of what Nigeria is

Putting round pegs in square holes, all because political appointment and considerations are based on stupid federal character syndrome, sentiments and political rewards for "boy boyship" even with proven track records of questionable tendencies and traits, at the expense of credibility. It's mind boggling stupidity; how they come to public shamelessly and make such mumbo jumbo assertions.

i do not know this omeri but if anyone here knows him, let that one tell him that i don't agree with him on this one.
the big, bigger, biggest threats to nigeria after the civil war are pdp and their corruption.
kill pdp and corruption today and nigeria will be free from any form of threat.
pdp and corruption are killing and destroying more than anything anyone can think of as far as nigeria is concerned.
