Miss Folasade Babatunde, 28, who allegedly poured faeces on Miss Agnes Olasehinde, an employee of First Bank of Nigeria Plc, Alagbaka, Akure branch on Friday, was on Tuesday arraigned before an Akure Magistrate’s Court.

She was arraigned on two counts of breach of public peace and assault.

Police prosecutor, Mr. Ayodele Atandeyi, told the court that both offences were punishable under sections 249 and 351of the Criminal Code Cap 37 Vol. 1 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.

The charge read in part, “That you Babatunde Folasade ‘F’ on the 24th day of February 2012 at about 12:30pm at First Bank, Alagbaka branch, Akure in the Akure Magisterial district, did conduct yourself in a manner likely to cause breach of the peace by bringing to the banking hall, a can containing faeces, thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 249 (d) of the Criminal Code 37 Vol.1 Laws of Ondo State 2006.

“That you Babatunde Folasade ‘F’, on the same date, time and place, in the above mentioned magisterial district, did unlawfully assault one Agnes Olasehinde ‘F’ by pouring faeces on her body and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 351 of the Criminal Code Cap 37 vol.1 Laws of Ondo State 2006.”

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges and Magistrate Rabi Abdulwahab granted her bail in the sum of N100, 000 and two sureties in like sum.

He also ordered the accused to deposit her international passport, if any, with the court.

The magistrate then adjourned the case till March 27 for hearing.

Counsel to the accused, Mr. Charles Titilayo, described the case as a misunderstanding between his client and the banker.

He said a peace move had already been initiated between the families of the accused and the victim on how to amicably resolve the matter out of court.

“The matter is already being resolved by the families of both parties in the case and I can assure you that the matter would be resolved peacefully before the next adjourned date,” Titilayo said.

Babatunde had on Friday gone to the banking hall with a can full of faeces and hid it in a polythene bag. She walked straight to the counter where Olasehinde was attending to customers and accused the banker of snatching her husband.

Babatunde, who came to Akure from Owo, was said to have also assaulted the banker and later emptied the content of the can on her.

The development caused a pandemonium in the hall.

The best way to settle this matter is for Miss Olasehinde to also go to Miss Babatunde place of work and pour feaces on her. Matter closed. Counsel to the plaintiff take note!

This act has left the First Bank brand seriously eroded.
I doubt if the banker will retain her job at the end of the day.
