The Pain Of Finding True Love. by Nobody: 10:54am On Mar 09, 2012
Good morning to you all,

I just want to share what a friend of mine that fell in love is passing through and to advise her on what to do.she was dating a guy who is from another ethnic group, older than her but she love him so much.however, the family objected to the union because of the ethnic difference and the relationship started cracking.this same guy later travelled out for over 2 years without caring for the lady.
Later on,the girl met an old friend, fell in love with him to the extent that he almost forgot about the guy that left her in search of greener pastures abroad.the problem now is that this sam guy though is from the same ethnic group with her but different religion which may not likely work out between them due to family opposition. All her friends and everybody she tells her story seems to like this new guy and most telling her to forget the akata guy.the problem now is how her family will react to this situation because she is not ready to do away with this guy and what should the guy also do ? This is a true story that is currently wrecking some peoples' emotion right now.pardon the writer for any grammatical errors. Thanks to everyone ! grin

I beg to differ and I do not need to explain that.

You telling me that Pain= Broke +Love and that Joy = Rich +Love?

Ah ah pain and joy are no respecter of Accounts.

What backward family she has!! How old is she and why is she listening to them? She may never get married at this rate. And if she so happens to find the type her people agree with he might not treat her right and she will be miserable for the rest of her life. It's entirely up to her.

Marriage is more complex than you and your spouse, it involve other people and things around you. The need to take them to consideration in making relationship decision is essential to our success in marriage.

My only advice is that seek for the everlasting joy and God's direction. Religion or no religion, Ask for God's hands in that marriage first. Family will definitely come back to you later but at first, it might be difficult , God will be with you

She is just disturbing her emotion for nothing. She should open her eyes and see the that love is nothing but illusion.
A bird in hand is worth ten million in the bush.

she better be careful with the way shes involves her family with matters of this nature, all she needs do is to go for prayers or else she might end up being a miserable single lady
Re: The Pain Of Finding True Love. by LordReed(m): 12:54pm On Mar 09, 2012
In love as all things we only fight when we can see a chance of victory no matter how small sometimes.

Your friend should fight for her love only if she believes she can have a chance of victory.

Circumstances are not the true determinants of how our lives turn out but our own determination will be a key ingredient in our success.

Fight and savour the process to victory whether in love or other pursuits.

The first guy was a no-no because of ethnic diff. The second guy who is from the same ethnic group she cant have because of rel.diff.Pray,whats the problem with her family?Next,it will be-the guy is too short, too dark or too hairy.Nonsense! How old is she anyway? My take is,if she loves this new guy and the feeling is mutual, she should go ahead with him.Wonder why some people will always want to play god over other peoplez lives.

Nigerians would always act as if they are still in the stone age. what has religious and tribal issues got to do with marriage. I thought we have outgrown these stu.pid sentiments. If its not tribe,it is religion and shit ,
Re: The Pain Of Finding True Love. by Frankiegul: 3:58pm On Mar 09, 2012
I didn't want to reply to this topic, but, i'll have to using my life experiences.

Am married to a guy from different ethnic background and different denomination (we're both Christians anyway). Our parents weren't happy when we wanted to get married for same reason. But we prayed and were convinced within us that we were meant for each other. we are very happy together and my marriage is in it's 9yrs with 3 lovely kids.

If u are at peace with the guy pls go ahead, that's my advice. Your parents will understand later.

Different ethnic groups. . . No Problem
Different religious groups. . . Problem
Different ethnic groups + Different religious groups. . . DISASTER!

The relationship will cause her more harm than good. it's better she ends it and cry the pain out of her system, cos if she stubbornly refuses, she'll suffer it alone. This is NOT Love!
Re: The Pain Of Finding True Love. by brainpulse: 4:32pm On Mar 09, 2012
same thing happening to me now.
I blieve its cause of the selfish interest and beliefs of our extended families. They dont care if the same person will give you Joy and accomplishment in life what they know is that if he or she is not from our tribe or rligion that he or she is an outcast.

exactly my point. we the youth can stop all these sentiments. when i am ready to marry,i would marry from any tribe, religion etc. I have told my parent this. my happiness is more important than other thing.

Why not start with Zamfara state? Or Borno state? I like youths with your kind of sentiments. . . Ready to be "suyafied". . . Damning the consequences, damning commonsense!

You think u knw better than ur parents? Stop decieving urself. Better wake up or u may regreat for d rest of ur life. How ppl are trying to copy western lifestyle forgetting how children and parents are almost always not in good terms in d west.
Re: The Pain Of Finding True Love. by Iolo(m): 7:42pm On Mar 09, 2012
I find it difficult to believe families still reject proposed spouses based on tribe.

I fink the ultimate decider should be the person's self and then immediate family. Provided it's not a North/South marriage, once there's cordial relations btw both parties then everyfin is alright by me.
Re: The Pain Of Finding True Love. by bonetalk(m): 7:46pm On Mar 09, 2012
My question is, is she contacting the guy that travelled abroad, it's very important to know his condition there before concluding that he doesn't contact you anylonger, i wish u could excercise a little patience before rushing into another relationship. On the issue of tribalism, it depends: for instance you cant expect your parent to allow you to marry from areas like bauchi, zamfara, sokoto and the likes, Coz of the danger that is attached to it (boko haram territory). However, i can marry from anywhere in the south, be it from igbo ebira or any tribe from the southern part of the country and my parent will never go against it, as long as there is understanding. On religion aspect of it, as a born again christian lady, it's very dangerous for you to go ahead and marry islamic guy, your parent would definately oppose it, dont let love blind you!! The bottom lines are, Be patient and seek for God's guidance, it is well in Jesus name

tribe issues»igbo vs yoruba
religious issues»muslim and christianity.
religious issues(christianity)- catholic and others

i wonder wen alll dese sentiments will reduce(not even end).

though i have de most undastandin mum in de world but i pray i dont get dis kinda headache wen i am ready.

@op, de issue is dat de lady is so obedient and loyal to de parents and cant do much, so she sshould just relax and start de search again and thank de parents for however her life turns tomoro
