ruffhandu: As an Agricultural engineer, you have endless opportunities. But you have to keep updating yourself to remain relevant.
I belong to ASABE since I was in 4th year, became a full member as a corper. Have been planning to write the FE exam (the nearest is Egypt), started my M.Sc in UNIZIK this year (My B.Sc was UNN). Started my ACCA this June (have written F1 and F2).
You just keep being relevant as you keep updating yoursel, wherever you find yourself. Just bought ESUT Business school application form, lectures one weekend every two months. Don't ever resort self-pity, you are better placed than those others. A very wide horrizon exists in the Agriculture world now, easy to be established, only be focussed. The world is there for you to conquer.

Thank Bro for that Update
I finished in Lautech as a student member NIAE, A Graduate member NSE, i intent to join NIAE as a graduate member and also ASABE, how do i go about it, Please. My number is 08068494462

Am happy 2 see dis forum. God bless d initiator. Am a graduate of Agriculural n bioresource Engr. Am abt completing my service which am doin at bayelsa by june, bt d most anoyning part is wen u go online 2 apply 4 engineering jobs, AGE is nt sumtime inclusive n it really makes me feel we ar been discriminated. Recently in bayelsa d pastor of my church called me 2 confirm d course i read after telin him he made a coment " u ar 4rm it" so i ask wat d issue is n he said a particular constructn company needed a graduate in Civil engr. So i had 2 pass d slot 2 a corpa frnd of mine who read Civil engr. So i feel lyk switchin 2 Civil or Mech at Master level.

I have always said this time without number, that * no one can discriminate you unless you start discriminating yourself*, you are an Agricultural Engineer and there is a slot for a Civil Engineer, how then does that turn out to be discrimination? I knew there is farm building and construction in Agric. Engineering, but then, that isn't where you are specialized on. It all depends, if you dnt have passion for what you are doing now, then change to another if you grasp the opportunity.

Who told you that bro? They may not fix it there online, bt if you find your way in letting them know that you are an Agric. Engineer, then you are a hot cake. Seriouly, its only those who are ignorant of that field that will devalue a graduate of it.
Where I am doing my IT currently, not even a graduate of mech. Engine will dare me. I teach them many things in the field they always claim to be theirs.

Agric Engineer,farm powa.Graduatd 2011.

Am glad to be here to identify with my colleagues in the profession. I must tell you that agric engineering is the best, the challenges we face currently in nigeria should give us the zeal to tell the country that we can do without their employment by creating jobs 4ourselves.Duo i knw its not easy financial wise. Bt i believe that 1day we shall live to outshine all this. Thanks

Re: Agricultural Engineers Forum: Lets Meet Here And Share Our Experiences! by obnelly: 4:05pm On Sep 26, 2013
I cant but start laughing in swahili,Its kind of funny reading post here.Four years in the field of Agricultural Engineering be it from Polytechnic /University and you want to let go all the knowledge acquired during those school days?Just like that .Well you must be joking.

Its a choice if what you like is Mech you have the right to switch, but as far as I am concern I am an Agric Engineer who waited for no jobs coming from any body .Its this part of the world that we under rate what Agricultural Engineering entails. Its applicable to what we do virtually everyday ,so if you are smart enough with your knowledge in that field you need not looking for white collar jobs but gradually build your empire from kobo to millions/billions and as you grow you see everything your professor taught you in the class coming to real life.

If you may have time to visit my farm you will see what I am talking about.I did everything just the way a professional will do things.CHICKEN ,EGGS ,BIO FUEL,ODOUR CONTROL,RECORD MANAGEMENT ,POULTRY CAGE FABRICATION.just to name a few of what you can do .

People feel remorse when you tell them you end up in the farm.Tell me can a medical Doctor work in the farm ,yes and no but he is rather better in the Hospital/CLINIC but can a vet doctor work in hospital? No.
Farm /field/lab/site is where we belong where we would be able to produce food for everybody.while the doctors are managing the health of people we are busy producing good /fresh food for people to eat .

Take it or leave it I will never regret being an Agric Engineer with specialisation in power and machinery.Presently I am running my private farm and I am generating better income.
Most of my friends who read accounting used to see me as a challenge .Go and work in the Bank,I will bring my money for you to count and the bank management will pay you from the money I deposite ,if you have BSC/HND,MSC ACA,ICAN.One day the owner of the bank will sack or retire you when you are no more useful to the bank and yourself but to me, hmmmmm my wax shall continue to wax stronger by the day.I will keep learning new things by the day and I will be the BOSS.
IF GOD NO SACK ME NOBODY FIT SACK ME".I will run the business till i go say i no get power to run the thing again."who fit sack Obasanjo from Ota .That is the koko. grin
Time to go to the farm.See you later.

Hello Mr. Tony, I don't know how stuffed your school work shop is with locally made machines.
as far as power and machinery is concerned, there are lots of machines I will suggest you build if you can, so, giving the project a tittle will depend on what you want.

Yes, I can fabricate provided the cost is not too much.

Any Option is fine by me wt the exception of Electrification

Thanks
