FA CUP: Chelsea Vs Leicester City (5 - 2) On March 18th 2012 by mukina2: 9:07am On Mar 17, 2012
The FA Cup may not be as prestigious as the Champions League, but the Blues are no strangers to Wembley as they have won the competition three times in the last five years. England's oldest cup competition has been a great source of encouragement for Chelsea's beleaguered managers, although it has ultimately not spared them from Roman's axe. Now interim boss Roberto Di Matteo, fresh from creating ''history'' against Napoli, has a fresh task on his hands in his bid to prove himself worthy of staying in the hotseat.

Buoyed by the midweek win, Chelsea will go into the game on a wave of confidence and on the back of three wins on the bounce under the new man. The old guard of John Terry, Frank Lampard and Didier Drogba all played an important part against the Italians and may be spared more duties, although the latter pair could be considered as impact substitutes if the situation calls for it.

The Foxes, meanwhile, have kept five clean sheets in six previous away FA Cup sixth round games (excluding replays), conceding just one in the other. They also boast the joint-top scorer in the competition this season as Jermaine Beckford has scored five goals, and netted 14 in his last 15 FA Cup games.

However, after sacking Sven-Goran Eriksson and replacing him with Nigel Pearson, consistency in the Championship has been lacking despite the millions spent. One draw in 16 games means that Leicester usually either win or lose; against a resurgent west London side, they may well do the latter.

Chelsea player to watch: Michael Essien. The Ghanaian has been a huge miss since he ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament and spent vast parts of two recent seasons on the sidelines, and his performances since his return have not been up to his usual standards. However, at 29, he is not part of the 'old guard' and will likely get more time to prove that he can still be an important player for the club. At his best, his stamina, combative tackles and all-action style make him one of the world's best midfielders and he could use a game like this to boost his confidence levels and put him back on top.

Leicester player to watch: David Nugent. Fourteen minutes on the pitch against Andorra in 2007 and one goal - so reads the international career of the Leicester striker. He has not made another appearance for England since, but has turned his attentions to his domestic form and has netted 13 goals in 31 games for his club this season. Still at the peak of his career, Nugent is a fine finisher and will pounce on any chances that come his way; plus, he will certainly be keen to prove that his international escapade should not be a one-off.

Key battle: Petr Cech v Kasper Schmeichel. At one point a few years back, these two were considered the best in the Premier League as Schmeichel enjoyed a run in the Manchester City side. However, while Cech has continued to turn in fine performances for Chelsea, Schmeichel left City after numerous loan spells, flirted briefly with Notts County and Leeds, and is now part of another 'project' with big-spending Leicester. The son of Man Utd legend Peter is still an agile and brave stopper and, at 25, has many years ahead of him, while Cech is only four years older. Both will need to be at their best under the harsh spotlight of a knockout competition.

Trivia: The last time the two clubs met was in 2007 and was a 4-3 thriller with Frank Lampard netting a hat-trick. Seven goals have been scored in the tie twice before: first, in 1908, as Leicester won 5-2; Chelsea returned the favour in 1958.

Stats: Chelsea and Leicester have met six times in the FA Cup, with the Blues winning four and two draws. Chelsea have won their last five against the Foxes, with the last win for the Championship side coming in February 2001.

Torress problem is himself , now scoring is not working, all he need to do is to play for the team , assist goals and play a very simple football 1 to 2 touches, no running arround with the ball etc

u mean drogba shuld fal down and die? Didnt Tores check on the history of strikers that has rivalled drogba at chelsea? Let me giv u a clue- crespo (recoverd his form once sent on loan to inter, but remained a shadow of himself once at chelsea), shevchenko (the beauty of milan), pizaro (has remained a constitent goal scorer upon his return to Germany), anelka (he acknowledged the supremacy of drogba, so drogba reduced his jinx), lukaku (the most promising young lad from Belgium, drogba hates that guy soo much that the juju made for him could criple 11 players simulteneously), tores, u know his story.
Drugba's juju no get duplicate. Isnt he ivorian again?

torres' problem is drogba. Juju is no respecter of 50mil pounds. The first time tores scored for chelsea, it was raining heavily at west Ham. Its only strong natural forces such as rain can contradict juju.
Oops, he scored, watch as didier books the next available flight to ivory coast, just to click the refresh button cheesy
