Shipping A System To Naija(from Us) by Nobody: 8:47am On Oct 30, 2007 |
how does one ship a system to naija? what are the fiscal implications? is it done via fedex/dhl, by mail, . . .? A seller stated that the laptop price excludes VAT.Does that mean one would have to pay vat? I´m asking because a friend in the US ordered a laptop for me. he´s received it.the laptop is a dell precision m90.it´s very heavy, it came with a free 19 inch monitor, and i bundled a laptop bag and some other accessories.he says a friend may bring the system (less the monitor) in december. i´m thinking i´ve waited long enough , 4 weeks already. so i´d like to know how laptop sellers and others ship systems to naija. are there any other costs like vat/import duty, etal? also, what are the dangers involved in shipping? how much would i have to pay? Also, a few years ago, a friends husband shipped a laptop to her.the system was intercepted by some customs officers. they wanted to know why a laptop was bought and shipped from abroad, when there were laptops readily available in nigeria.all they wanted was an exlplanation, but with all the $ i spent, i don´t want to take any chanes with those goods impounding SOBs.( nightmare - some computer illiterate customs officer using my beautiful machine to download porn off the net).any answers would be appreciated. |

i bought the laptop for professional work the main source of cost is the video card.the nvidia quadro is a workstation class graphics card. i am venturing into 3D engineering design. you will find that most systems , while good for gaming and simple CAd, show sharp performance degradation when subjected to 3D CAD applications.beleive me, i did extensive research. If you visit Nvidia's website, you will find, first and foremost, that toshiba is not even among the manufacturers that use quadro cards.you can also visit notebookForums.com( i think thats the name for an extensive review of laptops. the key words here are mobile workstation and workstation class graphics card. It would be too bad if i bought a system with a gaming card and started to gnash my teeth when rendering problems started surfacing. the tears are related to a trait of mine referred to as 'buyer's remorse' |

Tell your friend to contact the post office or whatever company is to ship it down and get additional information on paper work and charges that may apply. This information is usually provided at time of shipping and he can also insure it through the company. |
