The driver of that bus and the transport coy should be held responsible for this incident. If I were one of the parents I will by now be talking to my lawyer on how to press charges.

Roads in Nigeria are in a dire state and need immediate repair. I do not think the Nigerian mentality can see the long-term benfits of building a strong road network.

Why on earth should reasonable parents send their female children to school at such a distance away from their care. Nigerians mental ability are very low on everything they do. I live in lagos and send kids to school in the east, then some live in the east and send kids to school at abuja and lagos. Why not within their reach, where parent can drop or pick up kids which is their primary responsiblities. They all have fail those children. Its simple to avoid issues like this, In all parts of Nigeria we have good schools so parent should send kids to schools where they can easily drop or pick them up. Why go to Enugu went there are better schools in Lagos, Ogun, Osun etc at the same cost and Vice versa. God will help them overcome the experience.

Why are people just heartless Am tired of news like this.

This is horrible, horrible, horrible. I know bad stuff happens everywhere but the bad stories of violence coming from Naija every day is disheartening.

The bus company should be held responsible for the ffg reasons:
1) Most of them know their buses are not very road worthy and yet they decide to 'manage' it and still treat their passengers/customers poorly on top of it. It's not just Ekene. Most of the popular luxurious buses too. I have been in a bus from Lagos to Enugu, this time ABC. After we passed Oji River abi is it before, the bus spoilt. See prayer nah. Passengers were already preparing for robbers to attack. But thank God that he watched over us. And guess what time this was? almost 12 midnight.
2)The driver is a staff of the company and should be held responsible for not taking the safety of his young passengers seriously. I know most of them do not like to ply dangerous routes at night. So many times I have had to sleep in Ekene park or ABC park because they couldn't leave Onitsha late, which wasn't funny looking at the fact we had already spent almost 12 hours on the road ie just Lagos to the East o. What stopped that guy from looking for a safe place to keep those girls. I'm sure they would have had money for lodging or at least they could have gone to a police station or something.

Anway this is horrible and could have just been avoided

Gone are those days when fathers took responsibility for their children, by personally driving their own children to and from school! Thank God for responsible parents! Nobody should blame the IG for stopping illegal road blocks. Afterall, he replaced usual check-points with regular patrols, which is a better way of policing. But because the policemen will not get their usual egunje from dat they decide to abdicate their duties. Even when they were on the roads there were countless robberies and killings. They didn't stop anything 'cos they were more interested in their N20 bribe. They shld not come back o! All they used to do then was cause traffick jam and harrass hard working nigerians going about their legal businesses.

When I become the first female president of nigeria, all armed robbers will be castrated and shot to death. Tied to drum barrels filled with petrol. The above news is sickening . The police are not paid enough, lack training and above all, resources to carry out their job...
We need security in that country, it is not a norm for a country to be held hostage by corrupt politicians, kidnappers and armed robbers.

We need drastic change.

OMG , so many things are wrong here. The bulk of the blame in my opinion lies in the incompetence of the PTA of that school. They should be ashamed of themselves. I read the story in the sun newspaper, and the account there clearly states that it was not only the students that asked the driver of the bus not to continue with the journey, but that other drivers at Ore informed the driver that there were robbers on the way. Drivers have a good network system and information amongst them on the highway spread rapidly.

This is where i blame the PTA, Parents and school authorities. Why allow female students travel alone without the company of a mature parent. I schooled in Port-Harcourt and similar arrangements were made then for Lagos students. We always travelled in the company of at least 2 parents and one Naval officer( I was in a Naval school) though the school was mixed. Anything can happen on the highway. What happens in the event of an emergency which involves a child. What if one of the students develop an illness that requires urgent attention. Can the fellow students handle it? I am very sure that if a parent or an adult was in the bus, he or she would have insisted on the journey being postponed till the next day. Other Parents would have had a number with which to keep in touch with their kids in the event that the students didn't have a phone.

This is very sad. May God help those kids heal quickly and may other schools learn from this. PTA is not about collecting money and having meeting with all talk but without regard for the issues that really matter.

The Phone can be tracked by the tracking device in all phone now.
This was a set-up for real..had to be..they were just secondary school kids...

And oh, the transport company CAN be sued in tort. All it would take for a deservedly huge settlement is a good lawyer and a sympathetic judge. And given the heinous result of the company's negligence neither should be too hard to find.
